While I personally had no problems with getting the achievements in AR, I know plenty of people did and all they wanted to do was see the story instead of dealing with dungeon mechanics. If ANet is going to only tie dungeon instances with story, then they should allow for 2 difficulty settings. It will be similar to the infantile/normal modes of SAB. Everything you experience will be the same except the difficulty and eligibility of certain achievements. They can name the two modes story and challenge.
I’m going to use AR as an example:
Story mode – The fight mechanics of all the bosses will be the same except the damage on things like laser walls, Mai’s attacks, and cannon barrage AoEs will be heavily reduced. Completing this dungeon will give you the achievement for capturing Mai and a scaled down gold/karma reward. Players running this mode cannot receive credit for challenge achievements such as faster than light, personal space, and unfriendly skies.
Challenge mode – No changes to the existing dungeon.
This separation allows for players that only want to see the story to do so. It also allows less experienced players to practice the boss mechanics with relative safety before they try for the challenge mode achievements. The only group of players that will not like this idea will probably be achievement completionists, who will want to get credit for the challenge achievements in story mode.
