When attacking certain types of enemies, say in this instance Wolves, successful combat sometimes rewards us with the picking up of ‘tattered hides’ ‘ripped hides’ ‘torn hides’ etc. but we obviously seldom know what we are going to receive – if anything at all. Well, it occurred to me that it might make the game just that little bit more interesting if on approaching a den of Wolves (or any other enemy) for example, a message window popped up on the screen showing several icons (potential rewards) which could be culled from a specific enemy. We could then enter into combat specifically to seek out a given resource (much as we would if we went to a specific place to collect ore, plants, timber). Any successful combat which took place would perhaps provide us with the ‘chosen’ outcome, a ‘hide’ of some description or obviously ‘none’ if the system deemed the corpse hacked up so badly that salvage was impractical. The only downside of this idea is that it would effectively put a message on the screen over any action (unless the message was in a corner, so it did not obscure the view) and that it might ‘slow down’ the action. This ‘selective looting’ might be added to the game as a toggle option for advanced users who wish to use it but which is initially deselected for newbies.

How is getting exactly what you want when you go into the fight for advanced users? I’m assuming the point of this suggestion is to provide a more reliable method of obtaining leather and cloth for crafting. Currently it is easy to get wood, ore, foods and even gems, but extremely unreliable to get cloth and leather unless you salvage armor. I for one don’t want to have to salvage armor when I should be able to get the mats from the original source in the first place.

My preference in a fourth harvesting tool, the skinning knife. I don’t really know how it would work for fabrics, maybe if you used the skinning knife on insects you got fabric and on other creature you got leather. I know T1-T3 of cloth are actually plant fiber, but T5 and T6 are from insects. It can only be used on creatures, none of the races.

Yes, pretty much – I for example want to get specific items but often on engaging an enemy in the hopes of obtaining them fail to receive the items I need. The knife idea certainly sounds like a good one – and yes, if equipped would sort of ‘guarantee’ that the user was trying or looking to obtain pelts and the like. An excellent re-direction there, Kal Spiro.
