Server that isn't a low level ghost town?
I quit playing after the first week, because some stuff in real life came up. To be honest, I completely forgot about this game. I started playing again tonight and.. well suffice to say my server’s lower level areas are deserted. It’s not very inviting at all..
Well, they changed the game drastically since release. It’s no longer a low/no-grind game, and instead is heavily focused on grinding Fractals of the Mists for “Ascended” gear (i.e., gear-treadmill, they added Ascended after the fact with the Fractals patch, in which they also nerfed open world loot into nothing).
FotM provides the best loot, where all the open world events now provide next to nothing and are a total waste of time, so get your grinding hat on and queue up for those mini-dungeons: that’s what GW2 is about now, grinding dungeons.
If you want to circumvent the massive and painful grind, be prepared to empty out your bank account buying gems.
Despite the massive outcry since they made these incredibly destructive changes to the game, ANet has remained completely silent on the issue.
TL;DR: The game is now more grindy and less rewarding than even the worst Korean-style super-grinder MMOs. Welcome to Grind Wars 2, please enjoy buying gems constantly or making zero progress ever.

Hah! You better have Burn Heal!
I know that on HoD the servers are constantly packed in Queensdale and Wayfarer Foothills. I recently transferred to IoJ, where I have mostly been playing WvW, but occasionally jump onto Wayfarer Foothills and everytime I’ve been there, there have been 30-40+ players in the small area I play (around frozen maw event chain).
Anet made a misstep with the 11/15 patch that among other things emptied the open world on many servers. They are aware of that aspect of the problem and are making changes to encourage play throughout the zones. Read the video/blog post that just came out. I think it’s overall encouraging around this aspect of the game.
That said, on ‘full’ servers you will find people now everywhere in the open world. After two post 11/15 server transfers I made it onto Tarnished Coast and it is fantastic for having people around everywhere. It’s an unofficial RP server. Not everyone RP’s but you witness it occurring. I only say that so that if you never wanted to witness the phenomenon for some reason this wouldn’t be the server for you. I only RP on my Asura, and only if the conversation is about how stupid humans are.

Chairgraveyard u obviously didnt read the post that was made today about the changes. I keep seeing these posts about lack of population but I’m on ET and were at the bottom compared to other servers, yet I always see ppl in low level areas and any where else. As far as grinding out fractals.. This was asked for as stated above as well and they came up with their own creative idea and here u are complaining. Blame those who asked for it. As far as your whole post, u sound just like another person who has let a game take control and now it’s time to step away and find something else to do. If the game isn’t fun for you, why come on the forums and talk kitten about it? Open a book, might open your mind.
Everyone just sits in LA now and does Fractals right? You need to be in LA if you want to do dungeons too since there is no world chat. All other towns are abandoned and fields are empty. It’s pretty sad.

Try Tarnished Coast or Dragonbrand. There are bunches people practically sitting in the starter’s areas talking.
