Sexier Armor Plox
there was discussion here (not so long ago) about character clothing being TOO revealing…can’t please everyone I guess
Wow, really? I’d like to know what sort of armor that person (people) would prefer.
Possibly something that looks protective and not a set of magical damage-reducing pasties?
I will support more revealing armor for females when they give my guardian a Kilt.
@Alyssa, You know some of us would prefer the whole “berserker” concept for our character. Not every warrior goes into battle wearing a full suit of armor, some willingly enter battle with little more than an armored brassard.
It’s a matter of flavor.
While player A may want to feel like a juggernaut in full armor, player B may want to feel like they are living more on the edge with minimal armor, and both player A and B want to play the same class.
The response to them shouldn’t be “Player B go play a light or medium armor class” but rather “Here’s different armor skins, take your pick”
A simple Visual change is usually more than enough to satisfy most people.
To those who complain “the armor is too revealing” … you don’t have to use armor skins that you don’t like. And if you simply don’t want to see them, I’m sorry you may have to just deal with it.
Yes please, the armors were covering genitals enough for the game to be rated for kids avoiding reducing the sales to a smaller pools of buyers, but please don’t go over-censoring your work, it is just sad.
I agree with you Panda. Also, if interested, I made a suggestion yesterday to rollback Heavy Arah armor to its more revealing model as it was during the betas as there is quite the lack of revealing heavy armors at the moment. Support the thread if you wish to see the change.
First let me say that this is about female toons, as I don’t think there is similar demand for scantily clad dude toons.
You’d be wrong :P It’s come up on the forums many a time during beta testing. The men in this game seem to be terrified to even show off their necks or arms in a lot of armour (primarily non-heavy). And those revealing armour sets for female characters that we do have are often not mirrored on the men – the Embroidered light set could have been a great roguish, Aladdin-esque look, but nooope!

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.
The female ‘toons’ have enough revealing armour.
It’s ridiculous how much variety female scholars have and how little male scholars have. Nothing male scholars have mirrors the female counterpart and the ‘revealing’ male sets look terrible. We need MORE male revealing armour, and more of it that looks good. It was the same in GW1, the female sets looked great and were revealing and the male sets looked uninspired and plain.
Arena net need to get this one simple rule into their heads to make male scholar armour so much better.
-Make it form fitting/Skin tight, whatever you want to call it. Make it accentuate the male figure and the armour will look a thousand times better.
I’m really disappointed with the armour male scholars have been given in GW2 because it’s less detailed than the female sets and very samey. You just need to look at gender comparisons of certain sets and you’ll see how badly they’ve put some of them together.
I love Arena net to the ends of the earth but this is one subject i will gladly bash them on because it’s so true.
TL;DR Make male scholar armour form fitting and spend more time making the male sets and they won’t look rubbish.
So far I encountered 1 revealing piece of armor on my mesmer – Strong Chestpiece. It reveals his belly and sides of his body. Even though all other pieces of armor were very stylish and I liked to play with them, creating different sets, my mes was all the time covered from head to toes. Some player want to watch their female avatars in sexy outfits and I want the same for males. Maybe I should create the ‘Emancipation of Male Clothing Movement’? I say – show us more body!
I’d like to say now…
My standpoint on the revealing armor issue is for BOTH genders to get more. So rather than seeing this thread devolve into a “one gender needs more revealing than the other” argument, maybe we should all agree that from this point on the topic should focus on armor as a whole needing more revealing options for both male and female.
Hell if your playing an Asura or a Charr you’ll find that your female character wears male armor. So Female Charr or Asura seeking more revealing armors would want more revealing sets in the Male armor category. Just thought I’d point that out.
I will support more revealing armor for females when they give my guardian a Kilt.
See the guy on the left? If you want what he’s wearing make your way to Kessex Hills, the “kilt” is sold by Sergeant Rena if I remember right.

Hmmm, close enough, thanks for the heads up.
Nothing wrong with players having the ability and choice on choosing the style of the armors varieties out there.
If they want something more on the “Wild Party-Crowd” side, sure. If they want something on the “Nun Conservative” side, fine. Some of us actually enjoy the " WildParty Crowd" clothes much more than the mundane, boring and sometimes drag of clothes we’re cubicaled into by the real world.
We don’t want to be the overly-dress dorky secretaries or unattractive joe. We have the real world for that.
Often too much what has been happening to mmo is this constant drama lock pull of gender politic issues instead of taking the game as it is at face-value. A fantasy game meant for fun and play.
I’m all for sexy armor, really. But people tend to go way too far with ideas and requests.
There is no way Guild Wars 2 has more revealing armor for both genders than Tera. Not even close…
If you want to play a berserker-style, there’s nothing preventing you from removing the chest piece, helmet, gloves etc..
You wanted to live life on the edge? That’s how you do it. You can’t expect to perform 360-turns if you’re too scared to use the accelerator.

That’s the Pit Fighter set, it’s also sold by Heart vendors in Fields Of Ruin, the 30-40 zone most easily accessed by taking the Ebonhawke gate out of Divinity’s Reach.
Actually, I’d rather have more revealing male armor. You cannot even showcase your Sylvari male character’s bioluminesence on their -arms- because they’re so covered up generally. I don’t care if females do get more, but they already have some. Very little in the case of, say, male clothies.
As i already said in the betas I m rather disappointed by the variety of armors. Most heavy armor is just plate tin cans and most leather just coats with pants. Sure there are a few exceptions but the variety just isnt there.
GW1 was much better in this aspect: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Prophecies_armor
Also from what i ve seen the sylvari armor could use a few more revealing sets for medium/heavy.

That’s the page I was looking for to reference to! I’m not asking for thongs and lingerie but GW1 at least had the option available for most tastes. I always loved the tatoo armor, and am surprised that the idea hasn’t made it into GW2. Ugggh, and don’t get me started on the leather coat infestation.

Couldn’t have said it better (as indicated by the opening post). With a store that sells transmutation stones, a large and varied range of available armor options for each type should have been a no-brainer.
Wow, really? I’d like to know what sort of armor that person (people) would prefer.
I would prefer male characters to run around in speedos if women are running around in bikini armor. Anything less is sexism.
I see it this way – Guild Wars 2 endgame is mostly about cosmetics and WvW. All ArenaNet have to do is to extend endgame. I would lovely see more variety of skins for our characters as well as mixing between light, medium and heavy armour. It’s all about how it looks since stats are all the same.
I’m against this. I want female character that wear heavy armour not to be over-objectified and to represent a real armour set for their profession.

Exactly. Most games handle sexy armor from a position of straight male privilege, and it is still somewhat exemplified in Guild Wars 2 (human light armor has a stark distinction on character creation, and there is no reason the female light armor wearers cannot wear something similar to the male, unless of course Arena Net is only trying to appeal to straight male gaze). I have no problem with sexy armor being available, outside of my personal role playing preferences of not having adventurers going off into combat in clothes not suitable for combat or adventuring. However, it is rarely handled with equity and is typically implemented as a means of pleasing straight male gamers.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure females out there like a more feminine version of the gear and that’s acceptable, I just want them to keep a balance between feminine versions and over-objectified ones that are purely made to appeal only to one side of the player-base, but that’s only for heavy gear, light or medium can be excused for both genders.
I’d say, give us more revealing and more heavy armor. No reason to discriminate one taste over another.

I’m sure that getting additional revealing armor doesn’t mean that Anet will delete realistic-looking ones.

I can only hope.
I don’t understand your problem (those who are against). If they would add more revealing armours what would that exactly change in your life? You don’t have to use them. Others who want will. Simple as that. This way there would be more customization.
Also I don’t like how for example my male mage have to wear light armour skirt while he could as well run in heavy, full plated armour as outfit have no connection to the magic and it’s usage. I would even could eventualy get over light armour stats but I want skin so I can customize MY CHARACTER the way I WANT.

I’m against this only if the options will start being lacking for either side. I don’t want to have either too many revealing sets or too many seriously made ones.

Problem is seriously looking armours ARE cool. But there are not many of those. Most armours looks just silly. It’s not good example for “realistic” but good for “silly” – let’s take a look at Citadel of Flame’s armourset. It’s UGLY. The only thing I would MAYBE wear would be gloves. Also most headgear in the game is so ugly noone want to use it (hidden) – I don’t want to offend ANet artists but that is the fact. Alot of items have great concept behind them and are made not very well in game. Same goes for weapons which mostly are so bad that you will never see them in game unless you preview vendored items.
They say.. to defeat Zhaitan.. one needs the freshly drawn blood of virgins..
Does this not please not your defeat Zhaitan? Speak to me!
The notion that females don’t have enough revealing armor options is ridiculous, the males have no where near the amount of revealing options. Currently females have some conservative and some revealing options. Males have almost all conservative options (excluding Norn racial armor because that’s pretty equal on skimpiness) with very few revealing choices as a matter of fact the only revealing male armors I can think of would be the pit fighter and that tribal looking armor. If you’re going to have some skimpy and conservative females do the same for males, if you’re going to go all conservative with females do the same with males, if you’re going to do all skimpy armor for females do the same with females. I believe in Male and Female armor equality!
Sure, skimpy armors for males as well, why not. I also believe there should be an “armor” (chest piece) that simply add some fancy battle tatoo to your chest (why exactly only Norn can have tatoo?) – since it’s all matter of look not actual item (all items have same stats and look is all that realy matters). Also there should be option for males to hide chest piece at all. Just to show off that gorgeous chest and six-pack – and combined with Vigil’s helm we would create a Spartan warrior. Just cape needed :P
Also I wish my warrior could wear parts of medieval scoth kilt. Just because I like the idea.
Wow, really? I’d like to know what sort of armor that person (people) would prefer.
To be honest, as a fantasy buff, skimpy female heavy armor gets on my nerves… Is THAT supposed to protect them? I don’t think so! >.>
Is THAT supposed to protect them? I don’t think so! >.>
And how exactly is leather jacket going to protect anyone? Hmm? How about that skirt of mage? That won’t even protect him from cold, not to mention sword.
It’s a game. A fantasy. Nothing to do with reality. If one want to run arround naked – that’s his choice. After all he’s watching at his character ALL THE TIME. And you maybe will see it briefly or never.

I’m sorry, but a leather jacket and a g-string metal bikini are on entirely different levels of believability. But yes, I have a problem with some of the other armor in game too.
I’m sorry, but a leather jacket and a g-string metal bikini
Why would anyone want g-string metal bikini to begin with? Sexier doesn’t mean bikini/naked/put_your_definition. If people would want to see metal strings they would go play Tera. Sexier doesn’t mean that huge jump from what we have now. Noone would hurt from a bit more femine armours.
And by the way check out Human Female Thief armour in creation kit – it’s Duelist (78 exotic? yeah something arround that lvl). On male it looks AWESOME (I use it ). On female it’s not sexy. It reaveals but it’s ultimate ugly. It looks more like BDSM latex costume than ninja/assassin/thief’s costume. On the other hand check female medium armour from dungeon C.Mannor. That one is looking pretty well, but it slightly lack a femine touch in it. You see it’s all about balance. Not about showing naked butt.
As a woman, I’m going to have to agree with more attractive looking armor. I like my character to look pretty and dare I say, sexy. Not like a kitten, but just…feminine. For example, the Twilight Armor set for Cloth on female is feminine and beautiful (it’s like a ball gown made of leaves. It’s barely revealing, yet it still has that feminine delicacy to it.) Yet, other than that set, I have little to no desire for any of the other dungeon set. They’re all too masculine and unflattering, not to mention uninteresting.
So again, I’ll say that I’m all for more feminine/pretty female armor. However, I don’t want anything kittenty like Tera. Tasteful would be the word for it.

See? Even a woman see there’s an issue. Also she uses “femine” word near “sexy”. Furthermore her nickname is Nurse
First let me say that this is about female toons, as I don’t think there is similar demand for scantily clad dude toons.
So you are requesting sexy, skimpy armor only female characters, not male characters? How very sexist. Please, do not assume that straight men are the only audience worth considering.
Also, sexiness aside, male Sylvari really get the short end of the stick when it comes to showing off their awesome bioluminescence!
IMHO, more sexy armor would be great, but how much is “needed” varies wildly by armor weight and gender. For example, female scholars have loads of sexy armor, but the males, not so much. Medium armor is very buttoned-up and conservative in general, though again, moreso on males than females. Heavy armor has a pretty good number of skimpy and covered up sets, though could use some more styles that are somewhere between “full plate” and “bare midriff and a skirt” (again, moreso for males, thanks to the boob windows on some female heavy armor).

^ this poster pretty much sums up my thoughts on sexier female armor!
Sexy sells, always has, look at the free MMOs and their panty filled servers.
100% support both the coverage and the uncovered
facepalms
you people are really running out of things to complain about?
if you want revealing armor… go play Tera im sure that will have all your preverted and impractical fantasies…
I am actually glad for once that most of the female armor in GW2 actually looks PRACTICAL…
for once a fantasy game that doesnt have my character showing her thighs, kitten andkitten just to say ‘ohh yeah look how sexy I am’
theres plenty of more ‘revealing’ armor further on, the higher tier armor does have alot ‘more’ to ‘show off’
having said that I do not mind SOME armor to be more revealing than others. I mean as an example. a spellcaster doesnt ‘technically need’ practical protective gear because they can defend themselves via other means; aka, magic but classes like Warriors and the like NEED heavy armor to protect them… and no, no matter what you say a metal bikini can NOT be justified as protective nor practical…
I dare to say, that’s all a matter of taste.
Personally, I like the armors as they are. Plate armor is not supposed to look sexy, it’s supposed to protect your butt. A leather jacket still provides more protection than being naked (and besides, leather armor has been all around during medieval times).
Saying that you could as well wear less clothing (not talking about almost naked) just because it is ‘not realistic’ that robes protect you the way they do is just silly.
Overall I think, Anet did a good job, tossing some armors together, that fit into the world (except maybe the human female assassins outfit Oo). But that’s just my own oppinion.
For town clothing, go crazy all the way you like. But the battle clothing should fit into the world. And let’s be honest, none of us can really say, what Anet has in mind for their world to look like. If they don’t think, ‘sexy armor’ is the way to go (for both genders), so be it. If they do, same thing.
Well, I can respect someone’s tastes, but not someone’s desire to keep others from having a choice at all.

Alright, to be clear, what happens to male Norn, male Human, Char, Asura, or Sylvari armor does not concern me. It’s not sexist or racist, it’s a matter of taste…and it’s a video game. If Anet decides to make these clothing choices available for all races and both sexes, I would appreciate that too.
Plate armor is not supposed to look sexy, it’s supposed to protect your butt.
And there was no such thing like a woman in plate armour either. Well there was one but she was killed quickly enough (J.D’arc). Want argue further?
I mean as an example. a spellcaster doesnt ‘technically need’ practical protective gear because they can defend themselves via other means; aka, magic
I will try to explain that to another Elementalist, Necromancer and Mesmer before I will faceroll through them. Oh wait.
And that thing about Warrior need to have heavy armour. Guardian perhaps yea, but Warrior? Did you see a Spartan Warrior wearing an armour? And perhaps do you know that they steamrolled whole Greece? Or on the other hand did you ever heard such term as “wanderer” perhaps? No?
Seriously, just stop putting your non-existent real life arguments into the game. Especialy if you can’t even do it right.
(edited by Marrond.1385)
I’m all for variety. Sexier female armor? Sure. Sexier male armor? Sure. But also how about at least ONE light armor set that looks like actual armor instead of town clothes? So far the only light armor set like that I know of is the charr light cultural armor.
Personally I’m glad that most female armor in this game at least looks protective rather than the cliche skimpy bikini armor in most games. However, I wouldn’t mind having more revealing light armor. It’s light, so it’s plausible that some sections just won’t be covered at all. In the same trend, make medium armor more protective, but maybe still show a little skin (depending on armor set style, etc), but keep heavy as fully covered (it is, after all, supposed to be the most protective). While this may prevent heavy classes from appealing to those who would prefer “skimpier” clothing, it would diversify the spectrum. Oh and don’t forget to make the male armor revealing as well
