Q:
Should Legendary weapons be account wide ?
After thinking about this for a few seconds, I would be completely for this simply because no one on earth is going to grind on two separate characters for the same weapon.
Because if it has stats it should be soul bound. If you could have a weapon or armor that you can trade with your own characters that is one less weapon you have to either farm or craft which affects economy. While I do agree that it is one weapon and with a huge price that it will eclipse all the weapons you would’ve crafted other wise and is still a weapon with stats and should be soul bound.
There is a simple way to prevent that, by implementing a Legendary maker just as the Hat maker in GW1.
You give him your freshly crafted legendary, he then craft for a small fee unlimited supply of skin-only Legendary weapons.
Not only does it prevents your issue with stats weapons, it can also add another way of taking gold back from economy with a steady price of couple golds per skin.
I, for one, would push to have them account-bound. The way the Legendary weapon system works in GW2 (as others have pointed out in guru) may very well involve other characters on any given account, via matertial farming, gold, and game aspect achievement like WvW badges and map completion. After talking with a handful of others who are on their path to a legendary, a good chunk of them use different character to complete each facet of the requirements. In my case, I use my Guardian to run dungeons and dragon events for lodestones and Ascalonian Tears, while my Mesmer would be my WvW badge gatherer and primary jumping puzzle runner. Both share the ability to use greatswords, so it would make sense that Sunrise is a shared achievement.
As far as an impact on the economy, I personally feel that the business model of motivation of/ability to show the fruits of success results in more people attempting to try (and ultimately spend gold) to create the legendary. If the weapon is account bound, there is still only 1 of that item per person who creates it, just shown off on that account’s various characters.
In a radical hypothetical, let’s say one account has 1 of each legendary. Yes, there is the potential problem of having each of this person’s character decked in legendaries at all times since they’re account bound… BUT, given the amount of dedication, gold, and time investment it would take to accomplish said feat, I feel like that sort of account-wide bragging right is deserved on that player’s behalf.
I’d love to hear others’ opinions for and against the idea, though. Obviously there are numerous different mentalities and player types, but I hope our discussion can be heard so as to make Guild Wars 2 an even greater game than it already is

I’m not 100% sure about this, but i heard that legendary weapons are account bound, but there is a bug causes it to show as soulbound. Maybe we can an official response from a dev?

Lyssa, no. If at all, they would have to make legendaries soulbound on aquire or else this would trash the market.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
Nothing in this game makes sense being soulbound over accountbound, so yes. they should be account wide…IMO
Im wondering if any news has surfaced about this idea? I haven’t been worried about it… Until i got bored of sunrise on my mesmer. lol
I’d go even further. Legendaries should not be mere items. They should be unlocks like dyes.
They should be skin items you can use to unlock them permanently for the account, and once unlocked, when you put a compatible item (currently exotic, ascended when they add ascended weapons), you can apply the skin to the item by setting the customization mode.
