Since the patch, many guilds have implemented a 100% rep requirement on all characters for the sake of influence and missions. This seems to go against the point of being able to be in multiple guilds and represent who you want depending on character and what you’re doing.

A simple fix for this would be to show you as offline unless you are representing a guild. I like my guild that I am in, but I only ever do PvE with them because not many people are interested in PvP, and with over 400 members I don’t have the time or patience to remember everyone and who likes PvP vs PvE and what characters they have.

I also share a guild bank with friends that we use for just that: a bank. But if I rep that guild to access and fiddle through it, I run the risk of being removed from my “primary” guild.

This is a people problem, not a game mechanics problem. Sounds like you’re in a crappy guild if they demand 100% rep.

Technically this would be dishonest, you want to be able to lie to your guild and you want the game mechanics to allow you to do so.
However I do feel some sympathy for your stated problem, although your problem is not so much a game-centric-problem but more a human-centric-problem. Now I’m not saying that a 100% problem is right or wrong, but this seems like the sort of thing you either accept or reject, if the guild wants 100% commitment and you can’t do it then, well that sucks.
I use to be in a casual-ish raiding guild in WoW, the guild had raiders and I was one of them and to be a raider I had to raid. A simple enough agreement. I think what you might be trying to do here is have your cake and eat it, i.e. you’re trying to cheat on your end of the deal with your guild (the whole 100% commitment thing). Maybe the guild isn’t for you?

I agree with the OP. I too like being a part of two guilds, one which demands I play with them when I am online (it’s a hardcore guild). The trouble is I don’t always feel hardcore. Some days I am, others not so much.

In any event, it would be nice to be able to toggle my whereabouts on or off as I see fit. Why should my entire account be linked to all my guilds? It would cut down on many people’s guild drama if we could be in charge of our own play habits and not be spied on or told to get out of a guild if we don’t play with them all the time.

To me this is a privacy issue. Sometimes you wanna play an alt and be left alone, other times I don’t mind being found. Let me choose how my presence in the game is managed, that is all I would ask of Arenanet.

Sorry but i disagree with this . Its dishonesty plain and simple . If you dont like the 100% rep policy dont be in that guild .

IMO the whole mutli-guild thing is a complete disaster and I don’t blame guilds for requiring repping. You have 100% access to the upgrades the guild has spent influence on, requiring you to put your influence gain back into that same guild seems a no brainer to me.

Multi-guilding should never have been a feature in the first place.
With that said, the OP’s request is a moot point.

Tell those guilds you want to multiguild.
They don’t want you? Then none there is your friend. Why are you there?

I have multiple guilds who die to have me as a side-representer and would pay me to transfer to their server even.
But they would never ask me to leave my other friends.
That’s because those people either are friends of mine or have seen my spectacular in-game performance (/brag) so they want me in any way I can come at any time I can afford.
Those are good guilds.

Give the finger to 100% rep guilds and don’t look back.

I would not like to be be shown offline just because I’m not representing. I’m in several guilds, including a personal 2 person guild my husband and I put together to have a shared bank, and I would like the folks in the other guilds to be able to see me online regardless of who I’m representing.

None of the guilds I’m in seem to mind. I do rep each one when I first log in, so they get the 10 influence or whatever it is. I think taking away the ability to see if a member is on-line and not representing is unfair to the folks that want to organize a hard core guild with dedicated members. That’s not the guild for me, but I don’t see why a member should get the prestige of belonging to the tougher guilds without making the commitment.

Also being a guild leader of a small social guild when i see my members sometimes make new characters tehy plain out forget to represent(why you dont automaticaly represnet even when you onyl atre in one guild is beyond me though, but that is another topic), untill i remind them in a whisper and yes many of those out of choice do only belong in my guild, but as long as thay rep with jsut one character we are fine with that

No this is a bad idea,im in multiple guilds,one guild is mainly for people to gather in wvwvwv,those people hardly rep,its more of a convenience list then anything else.If anyone would be shown offline we couldnt ask help to each other anymore and thus making the guild useless for the reason it exists in the first place.

I co-lead a small social guild that has recently gotten quite a bit larger with the new missions taking place. We boomed from five to over 20, which is a lot for two days growth. We’re doing a lot of work on it now, but we still don’t require a 100% rep. I don’t even know what the purpose of that would be. We only ask that they rep when they’re doign things with us, and everyone seems to be okay with that. Maybe you should just find a different guild with more relaxed rules?

It is more a people problem than a technical one, would explaining the situation to them help? Some people can be perfectly reasonable, though they are demanding 100% rep, so maybe not.

You could always set yourself as Invisible on the contacts screen, that would do pretty much what you want, except that people on your friend list would also see you as offline. But do you really have not one single person in the guild on your friend list who might notice, hey the guild list says he’s offline but my friend list says he is!
Just making you “offline” on the guild screen isn’t a perfect solution either.

@Brennus I suspect the demand for 100% rep stems from trying to maximize Influence gain, as even an individual playing by themselves can generate a fair amount pretty quickly if they spend time doing events.

Having the guild list show you as offline when you’re not repping is defeated by the contact list which would show you as online. The elitist guilds would make sure to have members on their contact list so they can harass them when they are not repping.

The easiest solution to this problem: Make guild membership Account Wide and do away with multi-guild memberships. Simple as that.

so a guild has a policy that goes against one of the game features? meh. sounds like you need a guild with better rules, considering your changing guilds to do something that you cant do normally in the current guild there is no benefit in you repping them in the first place anyway.

You can choose what and how many guilds to be in, and the guilds can choose who and how many people.

If the guild doesn’t want your lazy butt not repping them, they probably should kick you out, and you have the right to just not join those guilds. Problem solved.

Of course guilds don’t like having members that don’t rep. They might as well not even be in the guild. Multi-guilding is a stupid concept that shouldn’t have been added.

If you don’t agree with 100% rep guilds, find another guild that doesn’t care. There are many small guilds that really don’t care.
