Id like to be able to see both the weapon sets on the character model.
This would help on pvp, to see whats the secondary weapons the opponent have; and
Would also be nice to have your sets showing, so you can walk around with your bow on your back while you hold your sword and dagger.

There might be some clipping issues, but I cant see them being a major problem or worse than what’s currently in the game.

What if I am playing a ranger with sword/torch and axe/warhorn? Ranger with bow and greatsword? Necromancer with scepter/dagger and axe/focus? Guardian with hammer and greatsword? How would they fit that?

It’s a nice idea, but it doesn’t fit all weapon combinarions?

It actually does.

Back weapons can be set crossed to each other, and hip-side weapons can be set parallel next to each other.

a BIG BUMP. I don’t understand why it doesn’t bother anyone else. I am glad it does you. I can’t stand that the weapons pop out of mid air into my hand. Why cant it show my two weapon sets? I mean… would it be that hard to do that? I don’t think so. The weapon can still POP in… in terms of equiping if they didn’t want to do the animation. Wow did this right with the hunter for example. Just saying, the weapons don’t have to pop out of thin air.

Can we get a conversation going on this one question. Is it valid to be annoyed by the seemingly unevolved character customization. EQ had static weapons that couldn’t be holstered. Wow came along and did some really revolutionary things with the equipment and customization interface. Animations for sheath/unsheath. Multiple item slots on character skeleton. It stands within reason that Guild Wars 2 dev team, as talented as they are, could give that extra touch that takes the great Hero interface, a 3d representation of your inventory.

Already started a thread like this twice… no reactions at all.
My idea was that if we would have to avoid the clipping issues (e.g. double sheathed hammer and greatsword) the currently active item-set would stay in your hands and you can’t sheath them. Something like this.

It should at least be a checkable option. In a game about cosmetics, I think this is reasonable.

Now to get them to allow dyes for back armor…

It should be a simple job to have set one a little forward on the hip and set two a little back so they don’t interfere with eachother. Bow and Greatsword, or Greatsword and Hammer rest at opposite angles. The problem is when you get something that rests at the same angle like Hammer and Staff for Guardian.

There might be a small few that present unpleasant clipping issues, like shields and the few two handers that “match” Moving one of them down a bit isn’t a great solution because of Asura. I think the problems, though, are minimal and I could definitely agree with this being an interesting addition to the game.

A checkbox to display both could solve those issues. If you adjust sheathing positions then there will need to be minor adjustments to the animations. Which is more of a headache.

Rarely will you see a game respond to such a small detail, but let me say. The best thing about this game is the attention to detail. The artwork is flawless. The combat is tight. Something as small as this is more than likely unlikely to happen. I do hope a dev reads this though. Anyway, one can only hope. It’s funny, Skyrim didn’t have this and had “pop” weapons as well. You could only display a limited amount of weapons. Early on we tried to mod this out but it was buggy. Then someone found the ini comman bDisabledGearedUp= 0 which gave us the ability to display a good selection of weapons – not a perfect solution – but it is curious that they didn’t implement this. I wonder what the reasoning was for not showing both weapons.

My main question is: Did this even come up as a question? Why don’t we represent weapons and items on the character in a more “real” fashion. Whatever that means right? However, this detail does seem to be unreasonable not to be in the game. So, I ask… Why?

some weapons need a different placement anyway, daggers should be on the backside of the belt and back weapons should be on the opposite position of the other back weapon depending on which one.
a bow is always left shoulder to right hip, any other weapon should be the other way around.
a horn is always worn a bit behind the arm while a focus can easily be placed at the front of the belt, a weapon on off-hand can be placed in the middle, pistols should be on your leg rather then on your hip.

there are many ways around problems like that, it takes some time making the animations but when it’s done it rewards players with a more immerse adventure without disappearing weapons.

I’m all for it IF it’s optional. Or if we can have a hide all weapons toggle. My characters don’t always have any weapons visible, let alone every blade s/he has concealed here and there. Sure, I can just manually disarm all four of them (using bag space) and then manually put them back on when the RP is done, but that’s hardly QoL.

I don’t want to be festooned with weapons. Heck, I generally RP that my secondary set just aren’t there. My Thief is a bladesman who hates pistols, my Mesmer has her pair of rapiers and no greatsword, my Warrior does GS only (ignore that there rifle, it’s not IC), etc.

Even if it doesn’t happen. Which I hope it does, but doubt it will… Are there any game makers out there that could shine some light on why this doesn’t happen? Is it a clipping issue with the weapon?

I can tell you why this doesn’t happen. People don’t really care. See, I think they do care. You stare at your character so often in these games, the ones with more detail will take the cake. I still can’t believe the hunter in WOW is the best example of multiple weapon display’s on the avatar. I think people do care, but are more concerned with less nuanced things like this.

Frankly, I just think they were design decisions made by the lead character designers. Probably because of clipping or object placement. I actually think that weapon placement on the avatar was weak or overlooked… I mean the game is so sleek in so many places. I mean look at the pistols… They are awkwardly placed at an angle when viewed in profile. That is the orientation of swords, not pistols. I mean they kind of dangle there don’t they? My problem with this is due to the fact that I have to look at this toon for a long time. I noticed it, and others have clearly noticed it. I can’t find anything asked about it in interviews, and I have never heard it mentioned. Maybe others have. This would be a great opportunity to hear from others who have any context for this question.
