Siege Towers, Ladders and the Like: Yay or Nay?
If they’re fragile, I’m all for ladders, assuming that you can break them about as easily as a mesmer illusion with the signet of illusions.
The only downside would be nightcapping due to fewer defenders, there would have to be priority targetting on the ladders by the AI to take them out as quick as possible so ladder swarms would be needed for the tactic to work.
Siege Towers could be stupidly durable and move like the golems – slowly. They’d obvious take fire from EVERYTHING, and I’d say they lock into wall sections so they’re a 1 time use thing. That would make them favorable only for the main castle, which is also where it’s most heavily defended and the tower would take the most damage

It is not very difficult for 1/2 people to clear NPCs off the walls of an undefended tower/keep. Ladders would result in undefended keeps being swiftly capped by low numbers, and make it easier than it already is to grab undefended towers.
imagine how much damage a mesmer portal could do with a well placed ladder!
it’s impossible to police the entire wall perimeter unless you have a massive group defending. with ladders you could have an entire army inside your walls in seconds.
Actually here’s an idea to accomplish the ladder idea without making essentially a mesmer portal: Grappling Hooks.
the hook is a one time use item to get only one person up, and that person takes 10 seconds to scale the wall. Any damage knocks them off the rope and the grapple is destroyed in the process. Price it about 20s and there ya go.

The problem isn’t that ladders would function as mesmer portals, the problem is that you only need a single enemy to get over the wall to let an unlimited number of enemies in, thanks to mesmer portals. Grappling hooks don’t do anything to solve that problem. One mesmer grapples up, portals out, lets everyone else in.
Terribly bad idea.
Tiny group could capture a keep. Just make sure it’s not guarded (Like deep in enemy territory.) Throw up the ladders, rush the lord. Cap the keep without the need of time to break down the door.
Just not a good idea. The whole point of the doors/walls is to allow people to mount a defense. Ladders would simply bypass that entirely.
Just look at people complaining about hidden mesmers causing flips to occur without the possibility of defense.
Ladders would be so fragile that even the NPC archers coud destro them in a few hits. This makes it harder to "sneak an army in with a Mesmer because a single mesmer’s ladder would be turned to twigs easily. They’re only supposed to be useful for small groups who have distracted or killed the NPCs, and this would cause the yellow swords to appear and alert everyone. You could hire special “wall patrol” NPCs to.
Also, to prevent single mesmer takeovers, they could be immobile, having to be placed right at the foot of the wall, or take multiple people to “raise”. Finnaly, perhaps they would only be usable on outer walls. All problems solved.

Currently the only decent idea is siege towers. But they would need to be made a bit aways from the wall and move slower than a centaur with its legs tied. They would need to require a rediculous amount of supply and gold, maybe 200 supply and 2g. And last, but not least! They need a counter. The only thing I can think of is if it is easy to knock players off and they show up on the minimap instantly upon build, that combined with the need to build it a small distance away from the wall and large supply cost would give attackers some time to react and not get completely infuriated by it.
