This is a really simple suggestion, but bearing a complicated burden as well as underlying reason.

Do NOT use anymore cutscenes.

I’m 80, played the whole mained story. Saw a few cutscenes. None of them were charming. None were beautiful. Even the supposedly epic ones when for example the ships and dragon arrives in the fort outside Lion’s Arch, were stale, slow and didn’t feel alive.

Cutscenes are to be avoided, ask any experienced video director. It kills the mood, takes away all your freedom for a minute to show you something that should’ve been obvious.

It makes me feel like Anet is treating me like a 11y old ADD child, pushing a clip of a dragon in my face for 30sec, when I am able to see it land from my own camera.

So please avoid this in future expansions, you failed to succeed with it in vanilla. I loved the feeling though in EVENTS, when you have free camera-view, can run around, watching a real-time dragon land in front of you, shaking the ground and roaring. Keep that up and utilize it fully.

Are you including the ‘talking heads’ style conversation cutscenes? Cause I do like the look and feel of those. Even if the writing absolutely does not take into account that my character has a personality other than being a willing instrument to every stranger and the voice acting is a very mixed bag. These could still do with some major love.

But if you’re just talking about the ‘action’ cutscenes like the one you describe? Gods, yes, we can do without those. They felt terribly static and oddly rough considering how beautiful most of the game looks. Like when strategy games do cutscenes by zooming in on their in game graphics.

I do not agree.

Cutscenes, done right and beign skippable are quite good.
All Vistas are cutscenes, and many of them are great.

And in the Asura story, they did some nice ones, like when your character tries a teleporting device.

If you are talking about those weird thing that happen in which two characters stay on in each side of the screen, with almost the same height regardless of their original height, and leaving out of camera all other people around until they talk, and removing any other party members, I would not call those cutscenes. Thy are more of an… let’s see… what’s the word…
Oh, that’s it! Aberration.
We could perfectly do without those.

But removing the actual cutscenes? No way.
