Sorry if this has been suggested already, i did a quick search but nothing came up.

Anyway my idea was to implement a skill rune system that gives current existing skills new effects based on what runes you have equipped , much like that of Diablo 3 for any who’ve played.

So, for example, there could be a rune for rangers that makes the volley on their short bow single target, but does more damage and poisons for more, or causes burning instead of poison and each skill could have multiple runes to allow for multiple builds. The changes could just be small trade offs like more damage but a longer cool down or whatever.

Ideally obtaining these ruins would be similar to the way we obtained Elite Skills in the original Guild Wars with a Signet of Capture. You would down the champ or legendary mob that has the ruin then use the Signet and acquire the ruin. For this system the Signet would be best as an item that you can acquire for some number of Skill Points at a merchant and then all you would have to do is right click the mob. If the mob doesn’t contain a rune then you won’t be able to use your Signet, but if it does then you would go through an animation like the one for attuning with skill point locations, acquire the ruin and that would use up the Signet.

One last note, these are only for weapon skills not healing, utility, or elites. As much as I would like there to be ruins for those skills I feel that making multiple ruins for every weapon on every class is a lot of work as is.
