I noticed a new type of targeting for skills in this newest patch.
One (or more, I don’t exactly remember) of the skeleton costume skills is an AoE cone, that you have to target. I found this to be more fun and engaging than a fire-and-forget targeted cone, like on the warrior’s triple fire arrow shot or the ranger’s axe spread shot.
I also noticed, at one of the Renown Hearts in Wayfarer Hills, you have to use a line on the ground to target your snowballs at the kids. This is like in a lot of MOBAs, like DotA or LOL, where you have a targeted projectile that you have to aim, and it hits for a lot more damage/effect than a normal skill.
I think, since Guild Wars 2 combat is action-based, with dodging and moving while casting, an aimed skill-shot would be a very interesting (and fun) addition to the skill type repertoire. Also, I think these additions might be ANet’s way of testing out the userbase response. I, for one, really like the idea.
Furthermore, in the AoE/targeted skills topic, what do people think about being able to change the size of AoE skills? Like imagine while you’re targeting your skill, you can use the mouse wheel to change the size of the target. You wouldn’t be hitting as many enemies, but you could do more damage to a select few. It would make many builds more fun while fighting bosses, for example, staff eles could use their storm skills and the 5 skill, warriors could have a more targeted exploding arrow, etc.

mouse wheel thingy wouldn’t work for me with instant casting. and if its not instant, then its too slow for me

it would default to the normal size, but if you wanted you could adjust the size. by no means necessary.
