The name is the name of the lore. The game was not named over a function.

I totally disagree, GW1 was named over the function and talked to the heavens by the developers of GvG focus being the main feature.

except that GvG was not even in the GW1 when it was released. It’s a lore name. Have you actually read the lore?

Yes it was. Guild Halls came in later, but you could GvG from day one. I can prove it with a link if I have to.

actually it released about 2 months after Guild Wars 1 released. Also once again read the lore. It’s not a game built around Guild versus Guild, it was build around the lore and GvG was just a feature.

we need pvp servers,(like other game do) the othes players, who not feel safe with open pvp or feel like open pvp is too violent for them, there is not problem! they can keep playing into pve servers. Win-win.

IMO WvW is poor and basic, feel like a big arena, and arenas or tpvp are like league of legend kinda games, is not like clasic games like lineage 2 for give an example.
For us , the players who love open pvp and play since a lot of years, this game is not addictive, this game feels empty, like a easy single player game in coop mode with friends.

But that’s why it is legendary. Not everybody in a game should be able to acquire it and it should take months of work just to get it.

Really? You do know that you can just buy most of the mats, or the weapon right? So your saying it’s not for those who don’t want to spend 2,000+ USD, nor for the people who will grind for what they need til the end of time, because of RNG? The system you support will be the death of this game. Being funneled into RMT to prevent people from playing the game, pretty much kills off the reason why we PLAY the game.

it’s a long term goal. Are you saying that if you’re making 5 gold a day you couldn’t get 2000 in 1, 2 years? How long does it take to get the most unique weapons in other MMOs? Just as long. The game is about playing. If, like I said, you want to buy the end game by spending 2 000 USD, then it’s better for the company and other players because you’re funding the game, however such activity is pointless and stupid.

I don’t want to buy the effing weapon off the TP! ANET wants me to buy gems to convert to gold to buy my legendary. Anet is already making a bad system worse, ads I get PM’d to all the time have way better rates than what Anet offers.

Problem is the gem store is supposed to be convenience, but it has been nothing but a huge inconvenience. Everyone seems to have the same answer “If you want it bad enough buy it!” Then why the hell bother playing?!!?

All they really have to do is modify the WvW system. It would be pretty simple. Make a smaller WvW map about 2/3’s the size of Eternal Battlegrounds, one half for one guild, the other half for the other. It would run exactly the same as WvW with the same siege and such. The games could run for a few hours each, last until a keep at one end of the map is captured by the enemy, or until all points are captured by a single guild. I honestly don’t know why such a feature already isn’t implemented, as already said, it is called Guild Wars.

“When was a young girl, my father fought in the Guild Wars…”
-Devona, GW1 release trailer…

Yep, its from the lore. That was the big war between Kryta, Ascalon, and Orr. Then the Charr came. Please learn your game history. GW1 was about PVE teaching the PvP mechanics, PvP was part of the PvE world though the arenas (hey cool, its like the producers name there) that were scattered throughout the Prophecies campaign. the crowning achievement was to go to ToPK and run HA and win the favor of the gods for your region which granted boosts to PvE (access to FoW and UW)… GW1 was all about joining the two aspects together while keeping them separate.

Guilds never went to war with each other in GW1, the had gladiatorial combat in arenas. The war was before the game.

With that out of the way… I am a PvE fan, I do not want to have GvG zergs on my maps, but I would like to see something like in GW1 Factions where guilds can use influence to control a fort in the world. Sponsor the local guards (guards wear guild emblem armor) and put their flag on top of the keep. That right should be given to the guilds performing the best in WvWvW defending the realm or donating gold to the WvWvW. Every guild should be able to purchase an instance hall just to hang out in. The top 5 contributing guilds on the server should get a public “guild hall” in one of the capitols as a way to show off like the fancy gold trimmed capes from GW1.

I’d like to see guilds be able to trigger/host open world events also. Like luring in a Dragon’s minion. Think along the lines of a guild setting up the event to pull in Shatterer or Claw of Jormag (obviously not those two, they’re taken already). They’d gather resources and set the trap, call in the locals (server wide announcement in the chat that guild x is preparing to fight [insert cool boss name here] at [location here] (link to waypoint) and an ETA for the boss. If no one shows up and the boss wins the guild loses influence in the area and the guild’s “hall” (the fort they control in the area) is destroyed/overrun by the minions. The top guilds can draw something into the starter area outside the capitol, and the content is still good because of the level scaling. It’ll pull players back to the lower level zones as long as the boss give some nice loot that always matches the player level, unlike Tequila and Shatner’s chests do now.

End long incoherent post.

And I really hope and pray that if and when the GvG and guild halls come in, they will not be instances, but placed in the open world. Instancing kills any sense of immersion and the feeling of a living world there is.

Am I the only one actually seeing how wonderful and superb the game world in GW2 is? Why should they instance it more and not utilize it as it is?

I could actually see this working fine in GW2, since there are literally dozens of ways to earn experience. The usual open PvP problem of locking players out of leveling content cannot happen in GW2.

Still would rather see consent-only PvP in the open world, as it would require less splintering of the playerbase over the servers.

But I think it’s fat chance of PvP servers happening without a major mindset change at Anet project leads.

Hello I’ve had this idea:
My suggestion was to build instances in every main city (DR, RS, Grove, Citadel, Hoelbrak) that contain a Guild City. Each guild would be able to build a small/large village depending on the amount of influence it has (which is in turn dependable on the number of members).

Each guild member would get the chance to build exactly 1 house, in 1 guild instance.
? this does indeed mean you have to decide which guild is your main guild and is the most important to you.

Now to get back on topic about the Guild Wars: I decided it would be a nice idea if we made it like this that we could make another instance that is partly the town of Guild 1, partly the town of Guild 2 and a sort of wasteland with ruins and the kind that is neutral. Of course you can ask to have 3 guilds in the battle but I think 4 is the absolute limit.

Next we could also have different targets with these Wars;
? Kill the enemy Guild leader or the highest member in ranking
? Capture the Guild Hall (the building that is owned by the Guild Leader).
? Killstreak (kill as many enemy guild members as possible within a constricted amount of time).

Other ideas: alliances between guilds to let them fight side by side?

Giving people the meaning of doing PvP in a PvE map isn’t a great idea, as i said that is part of the core design of GW2, any changes here will change the game completely to another thing. There is a lot of content to do at maps, just take a look at achivements and if you have them all just create another char and enjoy it in another way. People don’t come back to that areas because they want to farm/get gold/tokens…and that areas aren’t worthly as others. Making them worthly will break the economy.

The Guild Wars is an historical even in the lore of GW.
The game is not about “guilds making war” but about the world AFTER the Guild Wars.

It’ll be nice if there was guild halls, or even PvE locations that guild could capture to get a PvE ‘base’ of sorts like the outposts in Factions. But PvP fights using those halls or contesting those locations would have to be in PvP instances, not in the open world.
Because the open PvE world is a cooperation-only zone.

You would discourage low levels from leveling if that was happening. Imagine two guilds waring in a leveling zone? What happens? A waypoint gets contested and the guilds would keep on killing the enemies that spawn there. Now what if a person leveling needs those enemies to complete a quest? How many people would quit the game?
Also what if someone does not have a good computer and slows down to 5 FPS in major events and WvW? They play Pve hoping to perform well and BAM! Suddenly 200 people at war!

As I suggested, you shouldn’t build the guild wars in the pve zones, but in the cities. Each guild gets to build a village/city depending on the size of the guild.
Then we just add the area of 2 guild cities together into a temporary ‘Guild War instance’ and let them war there, instead of in the low level areas.

There’s no open combat with other players. You won’t go killing mobs on purpose, however in a war field you would do that accidentally. Who said it would only be a problem with the starter zones also? You need to level up to level 80 and Pve is good for that. That’s why there’s no open world PvP either, all is done in instances meant for it and I think that that’s the way it should be kept.

This won’t work in the open world and this won’t work in specific GvG instances either.

Open world: PvE content and PvE loving players will get in the way.

GvG: Not every guild is online at the same time, making for empty one-sides battles. Guild A controls the whole zone till they go to bed, and Guild B then takes over. That’s why they made WvW, and even then it gets one-sided a lot.

Whatever happened to the M and RP in MMORPG? When did they become single-player games that should strive for as little player interaction as possible?

EDIT: How many of you naysayers have actually played a game with player-faction based consensual PvP? Are you just resisting it because you don’t know how it works? Well I have, and it does work. It’s the best way for people to enjoy relaxed group PvP on their own terms.

It can be implemented, sir. We shouldn’t FIX these Guild Wars, no we should leave the leaders/officers of all guilds involved to decide what hour and what duration and also the number of players allowed.

Example:
→ guild A: 50 active members, 40 able to come
→ guild B: 25 active members, 20 able to come
→ Leader guild A challenges leader guild B.
→ Leader guild B either accepts a challenge or denies it
→ Upon accept: fixing the hour and number of people allowed into the instance

There don’t have to be wars when the guilds decide not to be part of it. No, this update should be optional, so everyone who isn’t interested in it, doesn’t have to participate.

I actually love this idea to death and would love to see the game’s awesome world maps have even more ebb and flow to their setup and populations’ traffic flow. It a shame how underutilized some zones are and I think it would be a treat to interact with world a little more directly than completing pre-set events.

But I also agree with a lot of the naysayers that it doesn’t fit and/or isn’t feasible for this game.

My biggest question would be how these ownable points work when the war is between consenting guilds and not all guilds. Or are you saying the toggle is essentially “be part of the guild wars or not” as opposed to “go to war with this particular guild”?

I think there’s a lot of ways a GvG system in the PvE world could just go horribly wrong, despite how cool it sounds.

Why would you make more than one purchase?

because they don’t accept Lithuanian credit cards so the only way for us both to get gems to convert to character slots was to pay with his card, however you are limited to 1 card bought a day and in total a month you can’t spend over 40 pounds on it, so they have it very strictly regulated. Eventually we ended up using my Lithuanian card that Anet doesn’t accept, but Amazon does and bought me a card off Amazon.

I think there’s a lot of ways a GvG system in the PvE world could just go horribly wrong, despite how cool it sounds.

Age of Conan actually had a brilliant solution to this problem. When you claimed a keep, you had to set a window at what time of the day your keep would be vulnerable for attack. The smaller the window, the bigger your upkeep costs. While it’s unrealistic, it’s also a very clever way to prevent “night ninja caps” etc.

Now about the consent part. I think it could work in two ways. First way is a contest of ownership of the game’s most lucrative forts and keeps, “the big ones” if you will. Those could work so that if you own one, you could be wardecced by any GvG participating guild and could not refuse a wardec.

The smaller forts could be at remote locations, not giving as big advantages, but would give an opportunity to claim one and still stay outside of GvG if the guild so chooses.

This way it would bring something for everyone. The big warlike guilds could choose to go for the big ones and therefore be prepared to fight any guilds who would challenge them. The smaller ones (or more PvE orientated) could claim a smaller place and live at peace and/or wardec only other such guilds to create their own (roleplaying) political community.

Nobody would be forced to PvP. You could choose the scale you wish to participate into GvG with (all-in or selective) and the risk would come with bigger rewards.

It could work, but of course would need a lot of work. Frankly I cannot see Anet going for it.

Ahwell XLGames just signed Trion to publish ArcheAge in the west and they target to launch this year. Will probably be a game much more to my taste, although I will probably sorely miss GW2’s more active combat.

No. It’s a suggestion of adding consent only PvP to the open world, giving an ability for players to choose whom to fight and whom to not.

WvW is all-in. If you choose to fight, you choose to fight everyone in the enemy realm with no control who they are, what their methods, etc.

Also, there are two different WvW areas compared to what… 30 zones in the open world. You don’t see any disparity in the amount of content there?

One more time…making open world GvG will change the core of this game, so you are suggesting something that will change it from the base, changing it to other game, bad idea

“People don’t come back to that areas because they want to farm/get gold/tokens…and that areas aren’t worthly as others. Making them worthly will break the economy.”

Where i said PvP break economy? And yes, making easier areas farms worth like end ones will break it.

It would not change the game. It would add to it. You would still have the option to play the game exactly as it was before, maybe just seeing more people in the open world, sometimes fighting each other.

The only thing that would change is the ridiculous assumption of the game’s lore that all races and people would suddenly unite and cooperate if there was a greater external threat.

Man, a feature that involve you seeing people killing each other in open map it’s a BIG change not an add. Imagine a lvl 20 trying to finish some hearts in the middle of a guild war where 30vs30 players are throwing AoEs, they won’t hurt you but it’s kind extrange…or imagine the opposite, you having a guild war and some invulnerable people running around, pointless. Maybe a better idea is to have instances in open map/WvW where gws take place, like Sirendor said.

I suggested instances before… this is a pointless discussion.

Well even that would be good, especially if they used the open world maps or bits of them.

I’m just trying to figure out how to utilize the most beautiful game world ever created a bit more than just leveling.

Maybe something like WoW archeology, only with less repetition and more minigames/puzzles. But that’s for another thread…

I guess we will see some time in the future what they intend to do with player housing and guild halls. Those at least are in the pipeline, although for me they might arrive too late (ArcheAge is coming out this year).

Before MMOs you had MUDs, I used to play in some MUDs which had limited PvP, but the player base was falling and they gave in to a vocal majority whould said increasing PvP would save the game and they added more PvP in various forms including Guild vs Guild, and initially it was a success, the player base went up, however it did not last as most of the long term players started leaving in droves, in fact it did not improve the game, it proved to be the begining of the end.
I have played MMOs since then who have made the same mistake with the same results.
I hope that GW2 does not make the same error.
