I know a lot of players in this game, including the devs, want to see an increase in build diversity. I know you will probably not add another like 10 trait points for us to be able to use, but the least you can do is add 1 more utility skill slot. That’s it. Just one more. It will make others want to approach into the unknown and try build combinations that synergizes well with the utilities.

Or, you know, just add more utility skills, which they’ve said are in the works. Three utility slots works fine and all a fourth will do is let people take one more skill that supports the builds they’re already using. One extra slot is nothing to make a new build about.

Maybe an extra slot for a different skill?

Something that brings us closer to how GW1 was would be fantastic IMO. all those skills! I really miss the level of experimentation that was possible. GW2 is just way too rigid in comparison…

how much “more” do you think this would help build diversity? it would just mean that the current builds that revolve around primarily utility skill type(shout guardian, meditation guardian) would become far stronger, they have many reasons to limit at 3, one being it forces you to pick the skills you want for each encounter, where as adding the forth, means you can take all the skills of a type, you would have to look at changing them around and really playing the game, you could just run around doing the same thing.

having 14 skills at 4 slots is 336336 combinations imagine play testing if each combination cause a profession to become unbalanced?

In reference to gw1 Remember how often skills were changed?
remember how many people actually QUIT when the assassin skill was changed?

having more abilitys creates more problems than it solves. I for one love that there is so little ability diversity, it forces you to get better at the game, rather than finding an “easy mode” variation every update (see gw1 farming)

I’d also like to see interchangable weapon skills to keep weapon fresh and preventing from becoming rather dull/boring. But thats probably not happening any time soon.

How that? Skills changing depending on the weapon: already got that. Skills not bound to weapons, but to “traits” (like in classic MMOs) so that you can’t recognize a knockback-hammer-bob, because he does it know with the greatsword?

Totally agree with this. With 1 skill more, people will only try to close a gap on their current builds or enforce them, what will lead to less diversity, because some builds will become even stronger.

I don’t think 1 more utility skill would be a good idea. But thing that would help build diversity:

1) Option to switch weapon skill. So you can specialize your weapon to fit the need of a particular build.
2) More Elite options. Because some like Mesmer and Warrior have awesome elite that work almost everywhere. But other have more limited option.
3) Revamp the trait system. Because right if you want to be a well/vampiric Necromancer you have like 8 good trait and 6 of them are in the same trait line. Or if you want to be a AH guardian you need to choose waste 2 major trait on some of the worst trait of the guardian. And since stats are linked to a specific line trait some build are better if the trait are in the same line as the good stats, while other build are handicap by less useful stats.

This would be the best possible thing to happen in my opinion.
For example, the thief’s shortbow is a mobile AOE weapon, so thieves should have other weapon skills of this nature to choose from with their bow.
It might create certain build popularity issues with more skills, but I would much prefer that over having to use the same skills forever (I’m primarily a PVE player though so that’s me).

I think changing the elite slot to also accept util skills would radically increase the build diversity.
