Some Classes Need More Weapons
dark i recently put up a new post for new weapon ideas.
as to current weapons applied to classes you need to think the role they fill. Ranger and rifle for example doesn’t make sense on a few level. first being they are noisy and the ranger would prefer the bow. Perhaps a crossbow would be a better fit. More hitting power slower shot rate.
Engineers also have fewer main weapons atm becuase they have so many kits instead.just like the elementalist has multiple attunements to offset its lower weapon variety and inability to swap.
Engineers need some sort of melee weapon though. It would be great to pound away with a hammer while your turrets are going off!
I agree which is why i suggest a 2 hand axe for them. especially one that is more then just a larger axe but combines a heavy blunt force opposite a bladed axehead. take a look around there are some threads discussing exactly what you are talking about, throw support in them, more effective then new topics
Love the game but I see some classes could use more weapon choices. Especially with the Warrior being so versatile.
Engineer – Hammers
Guardian – Halberd (new weapon type)
Necromancer/Elementalist – Sword
Thief – Maces (both hands)
Ranger – RifleThoughts?
Engineers and Elementalists have their own mechanic, which is why they get on quick weapon-swap. An Elementalist can wield a weapon and instead of 5 attacks, he gets 4×5 attacks with it (fire, water, earth, air), which is TWICE as much as everyone else ON THE GO.
Engineers been a while since I played em, but they get the backpack/turret mechanic going. I think backpacks can completely replace the weapon skills if I remember right, so they have already their second skill-loadout available without a weapon swap.
I do agree however that some melee weapon for the Engineer might be interesting. Maces might be ok. Maybe with a wrench skin or something.
For the rest:
Thief&Maces: Not very typical and not very subtle or elegant. I don’t like it.
Ranger&Rifle: They’re supposed more the nature-type with their pets. Rifle kind of distinguishes them from Engineers, weapon-wise. Which in return can’t use bows.
Halberd for Guardian: I’d rather see two-handed axes for warriors implemented. :p
My main character is a thief, and I have definitely thought about this weapon issue a lot while leveling up. Though I strongly feel that the thief could use one more weapon just to add a bit more variety to their play, I can’t think of any of the existing weapons in the game fitting this role very well. Mace… I dunno, you have to also think of the existing mace models in the game. While some would be appropriate, some are just way out of character. A small bludgeon weapon is cool, a big holy looking spikey mace is probably not.
Someone in another post suggested a “whip” as a future weapon for thief, and I totally love that idea

i’d like to see 1 handed spear and throwing spear to Guardian.
I think there are enough weapons but what i’d like to see is more skills for each weapon, so basically main hand weapons could have 5 skills (1 general attack (auto) + 4 other), and you pick the 2 other ones you want to use.
I suspect that additional weapons are going to be added in the future to grant each class a set of new abilities. I can’t confirm this, though it seems very likely. I guess we’ll just have to bide our time.

Engineer: Unfortunately, Engineers are currently the only class without a short range base weapon; even Elementalists have daggers when they want to be short range. A single main hand melee weapon, like a mace, would fix that.
Thief: Ever hear of a sap? It’s a bludgeoning weapon (read: mace) used to knock people unconscious.
Ranger: Warriors have long bows and thieves have short bows, so uniqueness is right out. Both of the bows for Ranger have a “quick fire” button; a rifle could be slow, powerful, precise shots.
Guardian: I agree with this one, but I don’t see why Warrior needs to have a weapon 100% unique to it. Give guardians great-axes, too.
I keep saying it but if you think about it an indiana jones, tome raiding, grave robbing thief can’t see in the dark. which is why I think the torch fits their theme.
Thief needs an option to have 1-handed swords for both hands. I want to dualwield those bad boys.
I like more weapon ideas, but I highly doubt they’re going to add completely new weapons to the game like 2H axe or a Crossbow, which would be awesome and should be there in the first place
I’d love to see:
- Quarterstaves (short range, big AoEs, at least for casters and thieves)
Because you don’t really have an RPG until you can beat up someone with a cane.
- Spears equipped in one hand for land skills, at least for ranger, warrior and guardian.
(mostly medium-long range, mostly single-target, one of the professions would the good ‘ol spear swipe )
Because we want spear+shield. Who doesn’t?
- Underwater dagger. (As a single weapon that gives 5 skills, for very close single-target skills. At least for rangers, thieves and warriors).
Because someone must be able to fight a shark with a knife.
- Crossbows. Usable at least by engineer, mesmer and ranger. Usable also underwater. For rangers it’ll replace the speargun when used underwater, getting its skills, so they never use a ‘gun’ at all.
(Single target, very long range, high damage and long recharge skills.)
Because Uh, ih, ah!
I think that Thieves could use Spears underwater then why not on dryland too? Crossbows would be a good idea for thieves, engineer, mesmers and rangers.
Knuckle type weapons for thieves
Thieves could use a chain type weapon, like a chain scythe or something like that.
Thieves could use chakrams.
Fan type weapon for casters.
Tomes..
Throwing Weapon specifically rather then justa throwing dagger.
What else?

they have already commented before the game came out that they needed something for the expansions, when they were asked why no 2 hand axes
