Some missing MMO basics...
“1.) Give Xp for killing people in pvp matches – doesnt have to be a lot, but I can still progress level wisedoing what I like to do.
2.) Rewards. I dont wanna get into the politics of pvp gear, i think its a failure this game doesnt have it in the Mists pvp combat – But, at least let us wear our pvp styles outside of the mists. Seriously.
3.) If the above 2 suggestions are out of the question – why not at least allow WvW to have starter pvp gear and full spec when zoning into the matches at lower levels?”
1) They give you glory as sPvP is seperate, WvW gives exp.
2) No, you can get the same gear in PvE as PvP, no need to cross them in any way.
3) WvW up levels you and generally gives you high stats (I tended to notice being up leveled gave my characther far more crit chance then being down leveled did). I would say that makes up for the weapon bonuses.
1.) Why is it seperate? Why can I not progress similar? Does it matter if I craft, quest, dungeon or pvp? Why the discrimination.
2.)Its styles, not gear. And you cant wear gear earned in the mists outside of the mists. You get rewards for pve’ing but really get nothing for pvp.
3.) In the WvW your skill points and spec are still low level, as is the gear. Making me a real liability to my team for me to join, and I cant really do anything cause Im too weak.

1) Because sPvP is designed for completely balanced play in mind. Hence all your upgrades are visual, and that is a key concept of sPvP – WvW is your “PvP with loot” feature.
2) See #1, sPvP is designed to be seperate from PvE and WvW and I agree with it – it’s a bridge between GW1’s “PvP only characthers” and “PvE / PvP characthers” which I support. It also means that if you have not played sPvP your glory will reflect that.
3) Your traits and SP are low, but your stats are up leveled to compensate – this usually means you have less max damage but more overall defense as your stats are leveled and generally well rounded. At about level 20+ (and especially level 30+) you really aren’t that kittened in WvW, but before you get your 3 utility skill you are fairly kittened.
Ok. I can see a lot of your points. I may not agree, but I can see where your coming from and can live with that. So let me reduce this down to one simple question/complaint….
Why cant I get a modest amount of EXP from sPVP? Say, 10 xp per player kill….similar to glory. Maybe a bonus for winning a match?
Fully seperate. Next thing you know people want glory from WvW and such.
I disagree with DADefence. sPvP should reward experience in some way for sure. It even did in GW1 on PvP-only characters. Further, PvP skins — skins, not gear — should somehow be allowed outside of sPvP, for bragging rights if nothing else.
The PvP in this game is a huge downgrade from GW1 in terms of real rewards, game focus, and even bragging.
Glory would not matter as you cant buy anything with glory except gear to wear in the mists. So it doesnt even matter. People should be rewarded for doing content and playing the game. Why do people need to be forced to do this or that? Do what you like to do in the game and get Xp/rewards and let other do what they want to do.
You can still be effective in WVW, even if you aren’t full level 80. It just depends on what you do. for example, siege weapons don’t scale damage based off of your level. so, if you are on a siege weapon, you are just as helpful as an 80 on that weapon.
STRUCTURED PvP is not part of the regular gameplay. It is an optional mode for people seeking more straight forward, competitive gameplay.
No, you should not get any PvE benefits for this mode.

One could just as easily claim that the PvE story is optional, or WvW is optional, or exploration is optional and that none of those activities should provide rewards that are useful to the others. I think the OPs point-of-view is pretty much the same as any of the many other players who don’t agree with the decision to boil PvP battlegrounds down to a randomized red-vs-blue King of the Hill match with no connection whatsoever to the persistent character you created. I can understand the reasons why ANet chose to separate their structured PvP from the rest of the game and create a level playing field for all players, but I still disagree with it and think that it’s going to lead to a lot of players who dabble in sPvP for a short time and never return.
The OP seems to really enjoy playing sPvP, and yet the fact that he can’t earn any persistent rewards for his character to use outside of these bite-sized deathmatches bothers him. ANet made a well-polished MMO with fun, fast-paced gameplay, but judging from a lot of post-honeymoon feedback, a large portion of the MMO community also wants rewards to show off to the world on the character they created, or they start to lose that connection. No game will be fun all of the time after hundreds of hours of play — it’s that connection to the community and to your character that keep people coming back for months or years, and bite-sized PvP matches that don’t use the same character you use elsewhere in the game just isn’t doing it for some people.
