Q:
Firstly, i think we can all agree that Guild Wars 2 is a master peace – it goes well beyond your typical MMO and adds an interesting twist to how things are done.
However this game is not without its faults. I personally feel something is ‘missing’ and this something has been picked up by a lot of players lately claiming this game is boring. Some have argued it is end game related but honestly I am not sure.
There is something we need to take into consideration here, Guild Wars 2 is for casual players – not hardcore 6 hours a day players, this I believe is the bulk of this problem with a lot of ‘hard core’ players reaching level 80 in a month with ‘decent’ gear and saying – what now? Naturally you have things to do, this game does not lack content but I still feel a lot is missing I find myself unlocking maps and doing events in a typical day on Guild Wars 2, after a while this does getting boring and repetitive – sure the events are different but it is still the same old go here, pick this up, kill this or reach point X or kill boss x, next map start again. Sure you have PVP but this is not for everyone with some people avoiding it completely.
So what is ‘missing’? Last week I noticed one of my friends was on Skype and not playing Guild Wars 2, something I found odd as he would spend most of his free time in Guild Wars 2, so I asked him ‘Why aren’t you in Guild Wars 2’ and he told me ‘I have done my Monthly and daily, not much else to do now’ I found this hard to believe, there was plenty to do, open more maps, go into PVP, level up crafting or do events. I noticed similar patterns with most of my other friends who slowly started to play less and less. I was thinking about this one night while playing Guild Wars 2 and suddenly realized something – I spend most of my time on my own in Guild Wars 2, I rarely interact or speak with anyone, even if we are doing the same event, most people stand mute and I find myself running past them without even speaking.
Suddenly, it hit me! What was missing from this game was not content but a challenge something that is hard to work for but requires a team to do it now I am going to list several things I feel would greatly enhance the enjoyment of this game below and I will also explain why.
Guild Event: Capture the castle
The general idea is this: you have a large structure, possibly a castle or large building which is held by a faction the ‘owner’ of this building/castle gets several bonuses for holding the area such as:
*Some Gold emailed to the leader every week?
*Rare cosmetics/fashion
*Buffs
*Access to special skills?
Now you can have one castle/land/building with factions bidding to fight or several where factions who are interested are picked at random to determine who fights. The idea is the defending faction defends and the attacking faction attacks using special weapons to try and access the castle.
This event should be held WEEKLY, NOT Daily, it will give players something to look forward to on the weekends and something to log on to, If this event was held daily the event would wear off fast and the ‘special’ factor would be destroyed – similar to having Christmas every day.
Ability to make your own home
I know this sounds rather unnecessary but it mimics the ‘challenge’ factor really well and gives players something to strive for but can never really be completed – it is content with no end as players strive to improve the look of their home by adding thicker walls and more rooms, more furniture, cosmetics etc… By adding the ability to visit each others home you also add a much needed ‘social’ factor to this game. I am going to list below some possible advantages for players to have a home:
*Add crafting/tailoring/weapon smiting etc… rooms
*Can assess bank from your home
*Can obtain special buffs from your home
*Can buy ‘guards’ for your home pets/human (players must defend their home from invaders from time to time)
Again, I cannot stress how impotent it is to make such a feature not too hard or not too difficult – remember players want something to work for and this shouldn’t be laughable easy but then again it can not be frustratingly hard either with this in mind there shouldn’t be any issues.
Players should be able to get a basic house for (30 gold?) and have the ability to add rooms, buy more space etc… The materials such as wood can be farmed while others can be brought from the cash shop or rewarded in events.
A bigger variety of dailies/monthly’s
With motivation to do them, this also gives us the chance to splash in a social element which I think this game lacks but also gives us something to work towards when we first log in, there should be a variety so players do not feel they are doing the same thing over and over.
Here are some examples:

2) -
3) -
I’ll finish that off later, need to do some more thinking.
