Q:

So there I was browsing through achievements when I decided to buy a bunch of booze to rack up some points on the thirst quencher, or whatever it’s called, achievement track.

So off to my favorite karma vendor I went. To get booze. From some NPC in a field because that’s apparently where you go to get booze… you go to some guy in a field.

That’s when I noticed what is illustrated in the attached image. At some point the decision-making-process at ArenaNet arrived at the conclusion that soulbinding a Bottle of Barradin Family Wine was both appropriate and necessary. Because the dramatic expense (14 karma) and boon (i.e, none) require that degree of regulation.

Now I know what some of you are going to say, about how the drinking age is 21 and aNet was just doing its part to ensure that no underage avatars used this product. But keep in mind that this wine is freely sold in a starter region with the lowest possible recommended level, not a level 21 and over region.

So seriously, aNet, do you think you could maybe do something about the ridiculous overuse of soulbinding? While I would personally love to see it eliminated entirely, perhaps you could find the kindness to eliminate it in unnecessary and ridiculous places… you know, to help reduce annoyance.

I’m sure when you went to the vendor and saw the item for sale you took .0001 sec to read that it says bind on acquire, so sensibly you made a logical choice to buy it anyway so you could QQ on the forums, right?
All karma items are soulbound on acquire.
Karma is per character, why should the items you buy with it be for anyone else but the character that bought it?

There are plenty of Karma vendor items that are account bound instead of soulbound, the OP has a good point, there are way too many items that should be account bound but are instead soulbound.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

I’m assuming you can’t drink them all one after another. That’s the only reason I can think of warranting a complaint. In which case I think ANet might be one or more steps ahead of you

As with all the karma items, they are and always will be soulbound

The dyes aren’t account wide so that you will still want more dyes even when you’ve collected them all on one of your character, giving ANet more money, keeping the servers alive for longer.
