I know this is going to be ignored, but that’s ok. I need to get this off my chest at least. One thing that has always bothered me about MMOs is the concept of items being bound to your character or account. I feel as though I am being penalized by binding something to me. Guild Wars 2 is supposed to be taking the annoying things about other MMOs and throwing them out the window (one example is gatherables).

A lot of people have the notion that people shouldn’t be able to bypass content by being able to purchase items from that content. However I like to look at it from a different perspective. If someone receives a reward that they don’t want, then it’s not really a reward. If I get an item that doesn’t have the right stats or isn’t the right level or isn’t for my profession or whatever but it’s soulbound, that item is useless to me. You could make the argument that you can salvage it but salvaging is RNG. You could make the argument that we need soulbinding to encourage people to salvage, but people would still be able to salvage whatever they wanted and the fact that you can only get certain items from salvaging (ectos, the ascended orb thing) is enough of a reason to warrant salvaging. We don’t need artificial encouragement to salvage. One easy example of a reward not being a reward are the ascended rings. After you’ve done fractals for awhile ascended rings just start to pile up in your bank. It can get to the point to where if you get one from a daily you just go “oh great, another ring…”

I feel that this could also create a more interesting market. Also if it encourages more trading then it would remove more money from the economy. The only exception I think is that items received from karma should be account bound, since that is the nature of the beast. Karma could be the currency used for super special items so that karma could actually have a use.
