Anyone else remember all that talk about smartphone apps? Personally I’d love it if we got PvP/PvE spectator view with game connected chat (perhaps just guild chat) as an app. Just imagine being able to pull out your phone and watch a live sPvP match while you’re on the bus, and discuss tactics for the next tournament with your guild at the same time, while they’re in game. Or perhaps whip out the iphone and see what’s happening in WvW, or just give tips and advice to your buddies while they’re on a dungeon run.

A spectator app would be a massive undertaking, IMHO, mainly because to spectate you’d need to either stream video (which would use lots of bandwith), or just plainly port the entire engine to a smartphone, unless the app does an extremely simplified view of the match (symbols on a 2D map, for example, like you see on WvW in the mini map or something like that).

I’ll give a +1 to the idea of guild chat on smartphones, though..

I’m going to +1 this. I think it’s a great idea even if I don’t think ANet really have the spare resources to do so. What locoman said about just putting guild chat and the like in an app would be useful too, not for me personally cause all my guildies work about the same times as I do, but for those who have different schedules it could be useful.

I remember that talk and I’ve been itching to bring it up. I also think it would be an impressive feat to offer spectating unless it was simplistic in design. What I would really like, however, is indeed a guild chat that allows one with a smartphone (not only for iPhone but others as well, I run an Android) to communicate with others on phones as well as people playing the game from their computers. That alone would be cool, but I think that could be extended to include other functions such as:

- Viewing guild status, and for admins the ability to alter rosters and ranks
- Viewing character as a 3D model
- Altering character’s dyes
- Viewing character’s stats
- Access to the Black Lion Trading Company and player’s respective bank
- Crafting access, utilizing player’s bank

Some of those would make the app more of a mini-game and I wouldn’t believe the devs would go for that, but a guy could dream.

Cell phone app was been stated as still in the works but is a back burner item as the scope has grown beyond the initial concept.

So its wait til its done time
