Lets face it, playing with the same skills throughout the whole game gets boring. I propose we bring back split classes! While creating a character, you can choose between a primary and an optional secondary class. Of course, for example, a Warrior/Guardian wouldn’t have all the skills of a warrior, nor all the skills of a guardian. Maybe even have completely different sets of skills. After creating a character, that’s it for the whole game. The only way to change your secondary class after that would be to buy a changing kit from the gem store.

Or a secondary class option could be available at level 11, when the characters can go to a trainer and get a training manual for whatever class they choose. But the one they do choose would be the only one for the rest of the game, unless a change kit it bought from the gem store. This would not only make ArenaNet more money by having tons of people buy change kits, but also Character Slot Expansions, More characters means more gear, so Bank Slot Expansions, and so on.

Of course people would create their characters, then decide they don’t like it, so they would have to go back, and delete the character. So there should be a “Test Play”character option while creating characters as well. I made a post about this yesterday. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Test-Play-Characters/first#post2254577

This would make the number of classes from 8, to like 64 or something. (I didn’t bother to do the math) This would also keep people entertained, and give them some kind of inspiration to play the game more.

This may be too much to do to change the game this drastically, and may be better saved for some other game by Anet, but I think it’s a good idea that could be used for something. Feel free to post your opinions!

Not for GW2. They actually had planned to bring in dual classes into GW2 but said that the design didn’t fit with the game, so they removed it. it’s better to keep the classes as they are now and have potential to add more classes later on, as well as adding more weapons for each class to have tons more diversity for everyone.

I think this would be too big of a sudden change, So, it is an idea probably best for some future game by Anet, Maybe not even Guild Wars 2 related. But I do think split classes are a huge part of what made the original GW so unique, because all the options players have, as to what they want to be.

I had a Monk/Necro, a Derv/Warrior Derv/Assassin, etc, and I loved mixing the skills and stuff. Thinking about it almost makes me want to go back to the original GW because there just isn’t as many things you can do with your characters in GW2.

Granted, all classes in GW2 are very flexible, and most classes can do many things, I still don’t think there are as many UNIQUE things to do in GW2 as there were in GW1.

It’s unlikely at this point they would do such a huge revamp of the game. What they maybe could do is give us more weapon skills that can be slotted in. Or possibly allow an additional weapon switch, maybe out of combat, for all professions. You would still have only 2 weapons, or one weapon for Elementalists and engineers, to use in combat but it would allow for more flexibility.

It wasn’t just that, it was also balance issues. GW1 professions were balanced in Prophecies PvP. Upon release of Factions, all that balance was thrown off-kilter with Rits and Assassins bringing in combos that Arenanet didn’t foresee. In fact, Assassins were nerfed (and kept getting nerfed) for the majority of the games life. And then with Nightfall, everyone expected the Paragons to be amazing and the Dervishes to be supbar, but with the skill combinations, Paragons were just support and Dervishes were amazing combo-ers with other professions.
