Start over with same name
I have a character name I love but I hate my class. I want to start a new character with the same name and discard the previous. I’d love to have a way to do this.
Take any valuables you want to keep, put in bank. Delete the character and make a new one with the same name. Problem solved. I know what you mean, but it’s much simpler to do it this way.

Cool. I was worried that the name would be/remain locked like in other MMOs. If it becomes immediately available then problem solved. Thanks.
What kind of stupid MMO would lock the name even after you deleted the character?
Lv80s: Guard, Thief, Necro. Renewed my Altaholic’s card on the HoT Hype-Train. Choo choo~
Yeah just delete your character and make a new one, while it does lock your name, it locks it to your account for 24 hours (i think) for you to be able to remake characters without getting your name taken as soon as you delete it. Atleast that’s how it was at launch, but i’m sure it’s still the same.
I had a character that I deleted in order to recreate as a different class. In the 10 minutes it took me to recreate the character my name was taken and I was forced to use an alternate spelling that I liked significantly less. This was during launch week though, so I support some kind of delay for unlocking the name if this hasn’t already been implemented.

There is a delay of 24 hours. Once you delete a character you can use that name again within 24 hours
im pretty certain that there is no delay. unless they added that in in the last 2 weeks because i deleted a character and changed the race and class and used the same name, all within 10 minutes
Blakkrskyrr, we’re talking about a delay in which your name stays locked to you so that others can’t use it. If you were able to recreate your character within 10 minutes and get the same name, then that does not indicate the absence of a delay.

I really don’t see how as GW2 locked names to your account once you deleted your character especailly at launch hence why thousands of people made 5 random characters as fast as they could simply to secure any names they wanted. I did this as did afew other people that I know and worked perfectly. We also tested it in the beta to make sure, I named a character, deleted it and got a friend to try and choose that name but they couldn’t, but i could still use it. I have not tried this since launch but I highly doubt they would have removed it.
Almost every MMO has some kind of lockout for character names that keep the name for your account incase you’re deleting and remaking it.
I did this during beta as well. I’m not saying they didn’t fix it, I’m simply saying that that’s what happened to me. It was a while ago, and we all know that launch week was buggy as hell anyway. I’m sure its been fixed at this point though, so the OP doesn’t need to worry about this happening to him.

This was a know bug. The situation was that the database of known/locked characters was offline due to the heavy traffic in the first week. if you would have filed a support-ticket then you would have gotten the original charactername you wanted.
The system has worked perfectly since then:
a: delete a character.
b: make another character within 24hours
c: You will always have your name again
If it is failing file a support ticket as soon as it is failing (do not wait for months).

You guys are completely misunderstanding me here. I’m not complaining, I’m not asking for my name back. I’m simply saying that that is what happened to me, and so if the feature didn’t exist, I would support its implementation. It seems that the feature DOES exist, and that’s great, I’m happy that it does.
