Not sure what your talking about so I apologies if I am wrong but when you transmute it works like so
- Appearance (stage 1)
- Stats ( Stage 2 )
- Rune ( Stage 3)
They can go any combination so
Starter shoulders —-————————————————New slotted shoulders
Stage 1 —-——————→ Starter shoulders __________X________
Stage 2_____X___New Slotted Shoulders Stats <—————-
Stage 3_____X___New Slotted Shoulders Slot <———————
End result —-——> New Shoulders that look like the old ones <————
That is how I did it with my guardian from Level 1 to level 60. I kept the starter shoulder Look all the way through. When you have transmuted them once into new shoulders, and you get better gear you can do the same process again just keeping the look of the original.
