Stop Hearts From Sending Mail
i don’t mind it i think its much better then having to go back to the quest giver to pick up your reward

DEFINITELY not suggesting that we have to go back to get a reward… just that we not receive a mail from the heart npcs, to instead have the personal story tab on the character screen have sub-tabs, one for the personal story, one for each additional story that expansions may introduce (at some point), one for each living story and one for all of the hearts completed (which would include some information about the heart as well as the letter, tailored to how you completed the heart, and reward).
Just wanted to clarify.
Mail from heart quests doesn’t block other mail. Your inbox has a maximum number of mails it will hold from other players and the trading post, but only mail from those sources counts.

Ah, good to know… but I’d still like this feature. There are other reasons to do it besides that particular one.

An interesting idea. Will it be stored on your computer or on Guild Wars 2’s side though? If you think about it, that’s a lot of info to store on their side. I’ve read that 3 million accounts have been purchased so far with at least one character per account. However most people have multiples. I have 8 myself and I’ve heard of 20 or more. But lets assume 5 average per account. That’s a guesstimated 15 millions characters the game needs to store as text info on hearts done. That’s a fair amount of text and its constantly growing as people do more hearts on alts and as new people buy the game.
Considering that Rangers can’t keep pet names stored because they decided that would require to much data space, I doubt that they will consider this unless a way around the text data storage is also proposed.

It would of course be stored on the server, all character information is stored there besides user settings… I don’t believe ANet would ever store anything like this client side. Or they could store the messages in the game files but only show you the ones you’ve completed (which they already track.. look at your map, they know what hearts you’ve done).
Either way, storage wouldn’t be a problem because the text is the same for everyone. Even with my idea of a custom message based on how you complete the heart (there are usually 2 – 4 ways to complete a heart, so we’ll say 3 different messages per heart) that’s 900ish (I can’t remember how many total hearts there are, just over 300) unique messages.
The same thing goes for the living story… what we all do is the same thing, really it’s just a matter of if you’ve done it or not and then they show you what you’ve done.. but in the end it’d only be a small amount of data stored because it’s not REALLY per account or per character, it’s game wide.. everyone has the same text in the end.
Also, pet names being stored is a bit different.. because that’s unique data per pet per character which certainly could become unruly.
Now, we shouldn’t really talk about implementation details… that’s not on us, we’re just people throwing up suggestions.

Indeed, this is annoying. Just give the money and don’t send mail.
