Q:

Story behind Weapon swapping timer? Suggestion to remove it.

For example. I play as a Warrior as my main. For example i use GreatSword and secondary weapon is Long Bow.

Sometimes, specially in PvP, when i use couple of skills Long Bow, then I swap to GreatSword, then I swap to Long Bow, you cant swap, you have timer in weapon swap, like 9 sec. Or backwards, you use GS, swap to LB, then you cant swap it to GS anymore.

Why is this? Something to do about balancing system? Why this is even in PvE?

Well anyway, I suggest that weapon swap timer is no more. I think invidially timers to skills are enough.

There are no builds actually in this game. And there are much more less skills than in Guild Wars 1. I play this game for a gameplay. I like to change quickly different skills. This can be happen by changing weapons. Weapon swap timer dont allow me to do this. Hope that timer would go away, and why not?

I think it’s to combat cooldown evasion… like…. try a warrior with rifle/rifle. If you had no weapon swap timer does that mean you can just spam:

volley – swap – volley – swap – volley – swap – etc?

That would deck. :P

Engineer dont have secondary weapon, but engineer has grenades etc. which are like weapons. Also timer is there.


Rifle/rifle combination could be unallowed.


There is also runes that give benefit to weapon swapping. So seems like this thing politics have written in a stone.

It kind of sad, that there is no free weapon swapping with no timer. There are now just complicated things that gives you something when you just swap weapon, what is that. I really think that this is not a brilliant idea.

This all cost you that you cannot build different kind of weapon combinations which actually works and feels natural.

This cost you unnatural things, like counting seconds in a battlefield. What is that? – Many times i cant change to Long Bow, i have to wait 9 seconds and do nothing, in WvW. Or if you go with GS, you would die on that situation when you need ranged weapon (!).

Balance issues can be solved. There could be timer in Skills, like there is now. Thats enough.

You could have fun with different kind of weapon combinations. You need to use your own skills with these weapons. This is not like runes that does the job for you prevent you having fun on your own.

Weapon swapping timer feels unnatural gameplay. There is no timer in a real world. It is sad that GW2 has this kind of features. Really hope that this would change, even it does need a lot of work to remove unnatural things.

Doesn’t work, actually. The cooldown is on the skill, not weapon. I’ve tried it with wielding a main-hand dagger in both weapon slots. Using a skill and swapping leaves that skill on cooldown, even in the new weapon set.

The equip recharge on kits is fast enough that you can use a skill, swap to another kit for one skill and then swap right back. If you don’t like waiting for the weapon swap timer you might like playing an engi.

Yes , im almost sure the reason is balance.

I could actually explain why this matter a lot to balance , and got nothing to do with using rifle/rifle or gs/gs , but that would take a while and i really dont feel like it.

Honestly , stop and think for a little bit , im sure people will understand the amazing thing that is born for 0 cd to weapon swaps.

I have investigated this thing, weapon swap timer. As an engineer, you can swap grenades etc. with no timer, thats great! GJ, no need to nerf that. I like very much this gameplay.

I have noticed that as a warrior, no overpowered combination is Ranged / Mele weapon. I think this is very similar as Engineer has. My strong suggestion is, that Ranged/Mele weapon 0 timer swap is allowed. This affects to gameplay a lot and make it sensible. You dont have to wait anymore in a battlefield ranged/mele free change. I think this is very welcome thing.

Only thing that prevents this is weapon swap runes. Runes can have now a note “Does not affect ranged weapon swap”. So, mele/mele has rune buffs only and as i suggested, mele/mele weapon has a timer as it is now. Only ranged/mele combination has no timer.

Ranged/mele weapon combination is a special thing. Fast situations needs fast changes.

Please comment if interested. I think this is important thing. I think this affects to gameplay a lot and make it better.

Only thing that prevents this is weapon swap runes. Runes can have now a note “Does not affect ranged weapon swap”. So, mele/mele has rune buffs only and as i suggested, mele/mele weapon has a timer as it is now. Only ranged/mele combination has no timer.

There’s also a trait called Fast Hands, which reduces the cooldown on your weapon swap. Your suggestion would make it obsolete.

And let’s be honest, you would be pissing off a ton of people if you made it so that swaps between a Ranged Weapon and a melee weapon couldn’t trigger the Sigils that currently have effects on Swaps. I bet you would have a frenzy of Warriors complaining about how you just ruined their 100% Crit Kill Shot.

Ok, thank you. Im learning things, my English is not very good. I didnt even know that cooldown means weapon swapping time.

But its good that things will be clearer. I was asking about story behind weapon swapping time.
