"Stow Pet" - Permanently (Ranger)
Wish I could do this with my town clothes too. I’m running around, doing some exploring, drop a little bit too far from that last vista and take fall damage, all of a sudden I change clothes, get out my weapon, and call my pet. Sigh.
If my pet didn’t come and help me when I was in trouble, I’d sell it to a butcher.
I actually thought about this yesterday.
I was about to travel up on a mountain and didnt want to attack any hostiles, cause then I get this movement speed decreese. And if the pet attack, I get it aswell. So I attempt to stow my pet but it comes back when I aggro a hostile.
Its something thats really annoying and disturbing.
Just in general, I don’t like that my ranger HAS to have a pet. It was an option in GW1 and now a necessity in GW2. Just being pet bound upsets me about this profession as well as him popping up whenever I take falling dmg, go into water, or get attacked.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
The pet is great precisely for the reason that it will take agro while you try to disengage. If I’m running somewhere and trying to avoid mobs, but get “pinged” anyway with a ranged attack, I let my pet deal with it while I keep running. Once I’ve got some distance, I swap it out and I instantly drop that agro. Without a pet, I’ll be running at a reduced pace for much longer, taking more ranged shots and likely having to stop and deal with the agro, rather than just outrunning it.
Pets have many uses. A good Ranger is never hampered by their pet.

I went to go revive somebody just outside of the aggro range of a veteran at an event where EVERYBODY died. I called my pet by my side while I revived. He walked 3/4 paces in front of me and aggroed the veteran causing me to reduce my revive rate. The pet died, veteran was no closer and started attacking me killing me.
I’m pro stow-lock.
For me its a matter of managing it. Use it to my advantage when necessary (running through mobs), and just dealing with it when I am trying to conquer a jumping puzzle for a Vista (fall less).
Not sure one solution exists that everyone would like.

Sure there is. Give people the option to permanently stow their pet, or to put it on “standby” (where it pops out if you take damage).
That way everybody can pick the system they prefer.
I think many people want the ‘Pet-less’ ranger…
The issue is that the class is based around the pet and the damage from the pet
So they would have to re-work the class and add a new trait line that either discounts the pet or adds in the pets damage, etc.
In GW1 I never actually used my pet with my ranger.
I’ve actually grown used to having it in GW2, but there are definitely situations where the pet becoming un-stowed is irritating.
Generally if I’ve stowed my pet it’s because the pet is hindering my ability to do something ‘precise’ and I want it out of the way. I’d definitely like an option to stow my pet for longer.
When stowed, the three pet options vanish, the space could be used to give 3 variations of stowed. e.g.
F1 – Return if I take any damage
F2 – Return if I am at 50% health
F3 – Return only if called

Or, you could have slotted search and rescue and got your pet to do the res, which would have meant you could stay well out of aggro range, or ressed him twice as fast, or ressed someone else at the same time, or cut down some trash mobs while you waited.

This is a brilliant idea.
Can someone please outline a situation where ‘return when I am at 50% health’ is a preferable behaviour compared to both ‘return as soon as I take damage’ and ‘return when I actively call you out’?
This excludes situations where the mobs are so weak as to not require the pet to dispatch any aggro’d enemies comfortably.
Quick fix suggestion while we wait for a major fix:
Add a little lock icon that you can click, over the STOW PET icon.
STOW PET -> LOCK -> “Good! now stay in there!”
How about Launch Pet.
You can kick/throw your pet to a range of 1200 at the enemy. LOL….
