Sugestion on how to improve the spvp in GW2
Good suggestions. I hope Anet staff considers them.
However, one thing I can’t see functioning atm is 5 tier paid tournaments. There just aren’t enough teams playing right now for that to work. Maybe at some later time if sPvP popularity grows back…

My feedback:
True that they should decrease the size of teams to 5. But why not be able to queue as a group of max 5 instead of 4, so you can have a full party? Also, I like the bit with the tournament tiers.
I don’t see the point in making free tournaments require a premade team, the thing with free tournaments are just to be able to jump in and have fun with just a bit better players than the ones in the regular sPvP, aren’t they?
Overall, I really think ANet should consider this.
I don’t agree with really any of the suggestions. (I guess I’m neutral to a couple though)
8v8 might not be the best, but it should be reduced to 7v7 or 6v6 and not 5v5. Hotjoin servers won’t always be full (although the removal of the ability to choose your own server will reduce the partially empty time) so the maximum should be higher than 5v5. Furthermore, the lack of coordination innate in hot join means that 5v5 won’t work that well.
Forcing full groups for free tournaments will just reduce the number of people playing them even more, which makes problems worse.
Paid tournaments don’t have enough people to keep reasonable queues with just one line. Making more separate queues will just dilute the population even further.
The ticket costs of paid tournaments are a non-issue. How people got the idea that changing those would somehow improve things is baffling.
Make all games 5v5. Eliminate 8V8s.
Agreed.
Remove the option of choosing pvp servers. Create a hot join option for each map. Allow players to queue solo or as a group of max 4. Allow player to play along side their their friends instead of against them.
Disagree. Single or group queuing free tPvP is your solution.
Matchmaking teams in the hot join according to the a rank of players, somewhat of a handicap type system where you would always face opponents the same level as yours. (Queuing as a group should raise your handicap some how so a organized group either faces another organized group or simply way more experienced player.)
It’s called hot-join because it’s instant. If you make it have queues then it’s not hot-join anymore.
Demand a full group of 5 in order to queue for Free tournaments.
Disagree. Since paid tournaments already demand a group of 5, I see no reason to demand it for free tournaments.
Free tournaments need to pair PuGs and partial premades against each other, and full premades against each other. I’m a casual player, but I don’t want to do hot-join even if it was 5v5. I like the tPvP 3-round rotation, and I like the rewards. I don’t want to be forced into hot-join simply because I queue solo. There are far far far more casual players than there are those who run teams, so why is ArenaNet catering to its minority customer base?
Arenanet had about a month to implement basics for the competetive PvP to flow, and it didn’t happen. Now the PvP is in decline. I absolutely agree what you have said would improve PvP, but we can’t stop there. The game needs 1v1 duelling, a solid spectator mode with perhaps integration with the FREE Twitch.tv API. We need online leaderboards and a way for the public just to cast and see the game. There is not much fun in seeing a game from one PoV. IMO PvP is underdeveloped and I want the game to be so much more, and I don’t want the PvP playerbase to decline further.
Furthermore it was said that Conquest will be the only gamemode at launch. You guys had so many great gamemodes for GW1, like Heroes’ Ascent, why not add some more gamemodes to GW2. Now, I know Arenanet’s employees have lives, and families. But, it is time PvP gets a higher priority, there were a lot of people who bought this game to compete. I have long wanted to host a tournament with money to raise interest about the game, but so far, this has been impossible. Privately hosted tournaments is what developes the game – just look at Starcraft II.

Something besides capture the point as a game mode would be good…… Its the main reason that bunkering is such a strong/important tactic.
The ticket costs of paid tournaments are a non-issue. How people got the idea that changing those would somehow improve things is baffling.
It’s an issue because it creates an unnecessary barrier to entry for teams that want good competition but aren’t necessarily top tier.
Unless you win paids consistently, your tickets won’t last long. Once your tickets run dry, you’ll be forced to farm free tourneys. Free tourneys are primarily populated by pugs. This results in two problems -
1. Premades farming pugs for tickets so they can go play more paids. Not fun for either party.
2. Queue times for paids go up as losing teams have to abandon paids in order to farm frees for more tickets. Not fun for the teams that consistently win paids.
If ticket costs were reduced, you’d likely see more teams doing paids at any given time (faster queues and a wider range of competition), and you’d see fewer premades farming pugs in free tourneys (good for fostering new blood in the pvp scene since people are less likely to get 500-0’d and quit out of frustration).
Matchmaking / Ranking
when this is implemented, the game will get a whole new dimension !! finally you will not have boring games, you will fight opponents that are challenging to fight to while not impossible to defeat.
When this is ready.. we can talk next.. because only this can create strong playerbase and dont made newcomers leave after first week.. sorry but righ now.. new players with rank 10 are fighting rank 40 premades.. what is funny on this?
