Let’s face it, many people sub this word for “pwn, own” We use it in conjunction to completely defeating another player. I’ve seen this word used in many games and on different mmo’s including this one, but people fail to see how incredibly painful and hateful this word really is.

A recent conversation with someone on voice chat has really opened my eyes to how hurtful this word it. It might not carry weight for many of us, but it really hurts victims and causes them to, in part, relive the experience. I personally think this is incredibly wrong and am amazed this word isn’t in the chat filter. People actually have to see insensitive and immature players use this word, and for victims, this isn’t fair. The guild wars team should step up and be progressive. This word should be put into the filter and monitored because, if we can save at least one person reliving this disgusting act, then it’s worth it.

Mods or devs I urge you to look at the word in question and put it in the filter and make hurtful uses of it considered a “hate” word such as some racist remarks.

The trouble is, “Own” is not just a pejorative word. It has legitimate, every-day uses outside of smack-talk.
Now bollocks on the other hand, I’m stunned and somewhat amused that this gets through the filter.

Honestly, there are far worse things that can be said, Sniffy. To tell the truth, I’m convinced that Western culture’s obsession with “Political Correctness” has made folk downright spineless. As someone who is generally in the “underdog” position, WvW-wise, being told I got “pwned” does precisely one bloody thing: makes me go back after the player in question, with better tactics. Goodness, at least when I was a squalling brat, you had to talk smack about a man’s mom to get a rise out of ‘em.
(And we wonder how “Cyberbullying” became an issue … someone annoys you that much, we’ve got a block function for a reason. Or you could out-troll the troll.)

As for words that don’t get “kittened,” we can’t expect a perfect 100% ratio. Nothing
human, or made by our kind is that efficient.

I am simply baffled as how this word, which is censored here, can be thrown around so lightly in game.
