Suggestion regarding guesting, lag, and overflow
Another thread about this? TC advertised themselves as the pve party server when guesting first came out. What exactly did you expect to happen?

You’ve said this in multiple threads and it’s simply not true. TC did not “advertise themselves”, a mere few people on Reddit — most of whom weren’t even from TC as I recall — thought TC should be used for this purpose. Of those of us who call the server our home, many, myself included, definitely cringed at that post.
Personally I’m happy to play with respectful guesters, but I wish people would stop behaving like TC has been talking itself up as the best server for PvE when it’s everyone else who decided they should pile in here.

All I know is that several times on these forums there have been several “is there an official pve server” threads and every time people have said go to TC.

And I’m sure that those few people definitely speak for our entire server.

TS, don’t bother replying fellyn. He’s probably one of the thick skin guester himself and they will never admit their lack of consideration. Will also refute with a “it’s your problem”, because that’s what he’s doing in the other thread.

I figure they speak for your entire server about as much as you do. And I never said they did, only that that might be the cause for your problems.

Well you’d be completely wrong in assuming that. I haven’t used guesting once since it was added to the game.
And it is your problem. The system is fair to everyone. Don’t like overflow? Guest to a lower pop server. Problem solved.

Actually, that’s exactly what you said….
This is starting to happen in Crystal Desert, as well. The lag is always there, but right after the daily reset, the events (especially dragon events) are nearly impossible to deal with. The Megadestroyer event crashed (kicked all the players out and then was gone when they got back on). Claw of Jormag lagged so badly that Claw didn’t even have time to do any sort of attacks, and there was up to about a 20 second delay in your own attacks actually going off.
I really love that people can guest on other servers, but it’s causing a lot of problems in these big events (and on the maps the events take place, since people on the other side of the map experience lag during these events now).
The same is starting to happen on Blackgate at the dragon events.

So sorry. Let me clarify. “Some people on TC”. All better now? Regardless my point still stands.
It’s happening on JQ as well unfortunately.

Yes, sadly our JQ has became a PVE camping server no thanks to certain inconsiderate people.
Just give it some time guys. Honestly. 3 days after a big patch that adjusted loot. The one thing both TC and JQ have in common is that they’ve both been historically high population servers. The reason you’re getting overflows is more than likely due to that fact than anything else.
Guest is not the issue, these events are worth it and people are just all doing it. Stop blaming something you don’t understand.
yup, jq is overcooked.. :/
drawback of guesting, a solution will be necessary.

also true, make other stuff as equally rewarding then.
a solution is still needed. especially since these events are on timers and getting abused like there is no tmrw to the point of not being fun anymore, its farming time!!

camping and farming are 2 big issues right now.
people are not playing the game they are waiting for rewards, the easiest possible way.
and things are faster when there is more people.
its a design issue.
TC didnt’ advertise themselves as the guesting server, one or two people did. I’m sorta doubting they consulted everyone on TC before posting. I know I wasn’t consulted.
It is a good server, and it’s busy. But yeah, with guesting it’s gotten out of hand. Fortuanately, I can just guest over to the other busy servers.

Forum police? I was under the impression this was a discussion forum where people talk about stuff. And that’s what I was doing. Sorry if my opinion differs from yours.

Yes. People talk about stuff, not post the same response in multiple threads. And I can use that logic too: Sorry some of us have problems with guesting.

Well, in my opinion: people who’s server is “home” should not miss out on timed events because they’re forced into an overflow from guesting. Now, the issue may NOT be guesting, but instead the new popularity of the chests. Have any devs commented on this? Because it is kinda lame that people in their own home server can’t do things because of guesting..and we shouldn’t be forced to guest to another server because things aren’t accessible on our home server.
Now, I welcome those who guesting, and I don’t think this issue is their fault, but instead a possible oversight on ANet’s behalf, and I get really sad when I see the anti-guesting talk….

popularity of “chests” are part of the reason for sure.
but we need to look at it from another point of view, the big picture.
a lot of lower level “stuff”, crafting mats, items etc are not useful anymore.
worst comes to worst, you can always farm gold to buy all you need.
the deep problem is the themepark pattern.
it isnt a good formula for longevity anymore i think.
sure, guild wars 2 is an awesome game, but the “endgame” (dreaded term) is not suitable.
they cant make people farm x amount of scrap for gold to get what they need.
the laurels are a move in the right direction, but the clock is ticking.
the bigger picture “design” isnt suitable as it is for longevity.
the next best mmo will need to have a themepark game to bring people in, but as you go deeper into the game, sandbox concepts will need to be integrated at endgame.
this way you could have the best of both world.
themepark endgame as we know it (farming mostly) isnt the way to develop the next big mmo.
you need to give new players, or levelling up toons, a themepark to play with and hardcore players a sandbox to control that themepark.
ill need to think about it more, but its the right concept for sure.
Before the patch I was lucky to get 1 or 2 members to do dragons with me. After the patch I don’t think there’s been one where we haven’t had 2 full groups. Guesting has little affect on what’s happening. It’s just that the loot is so good that everyone and there dog is doing these events now.
Guests should be placed in overflow before local server members. I have no problem with people trying to do things on our server, as it is a great server and people are friendly. But when guesting is causing TCers to lose out on their own events, that is a problem. It’s a problem for any other top 10 server who is being overloaded too. Guests should go to the overflow first. I think that’s fair.
Guesting is only a minor part of it. People guest cause of the long respawns; however, the major part of it is because anet also upped the rewards on these chests. Obviously everyone on the server is going to flock to one area when it spawns whereas before, no one cared about them because 5 minutes at shelter/pentinent already made up for what was in those chests.

This. Guesting has very little to do with the lag. It’s the upgraded rewards that has pushed masses to do the events.
They really need to push the Orr event scaling out to the rest of the world with the improved rewards. Right now it’s all reward and no risk at all. But when you get a few champions stomping people around at Claw’s, then it’ll be a different story.
Also consider this: with the improved rewards, prices will drop which means your gold will be worth more. I’d do dungeons and other non-overloaded content for gold, then use that to buy the stuff you need. Let the reward rush simmer down, in a couple of weeks people won’t be swarming the events as much.

yup, world event are screwed if they are “too easy”
and they are.
remember endgame is a “loot wars 2”.
most players dont give a kitten about nothing else but get the shinnies and then… and then what ?
themepark endgame farming is so old school design :/

There are already champions at claw of jormag? Most people just ignore them.

That is what I wanted to sent across in my message that home server residents should not missed out on events while guests gets to do the events, but it seems the “forum police” are saying its our problem
People disagree with you so they are labeled forum police? You’re one to talk about being considerate.
