Thats underwear that shows up and I was referring more to something that would be used while experiencing underwater combat.
but then everyone would be forced to wear leather armor underwater, which is silly and benefits no one.
I wasn’t talking about actually adding a new category of armor, I was talking about giving your armor a different appearance while underwater.
While I’m skeptical they would ever actually go into such detail for an aesthetic change like this, it’d certainly look a lot more believable. The game — like any MMO — is full of things that could look or behave way better if a little more attention had been paid to “the little things.” Every game has compromises, though.
Switching to town clothes while underwater should make you switch to a swimsuit. I’d prefer to keep my armor on while fighting things, however.

I understand that and I realize I’m being a little bit nit picky as well. Its just that this game feels polished in all areas except underwater combat, furthermore they already have a water breather which makes me feel like they should add a little bit more to go with it. I would be fine even if it were something really simple like one-pieces and a swim trunks.

I’ve actually nitpicked on a pretty big list of aesthetic or ambient details that currently give off a lazy or unpolished appearance, so I know where you’re coming from. As for the aqua breather, ever notice that you can unequip it and still breath underwater? The game gives off a very polished, atmospheric vibe on the surface, and it plays very well and looks beautiful, of course, but there are a ton of little things that could’ve been done way better, in my opinion.

yes, and to make it “realistic”, it would turn into leather armor, because heavy armor would just make you sink.
this may add realism, but it’s bad design. suspend your disbelief, i’m sure you have more things to worry about in-game than that armor getting rusty, or the player not sinking despite wearing 30 pounds of steel.

I don’t think it would be armor, I was thinking something like this, except maybe a little bit more fantasy themed looking.

so according to you, when i’m fighting the champion risen megalodon, i should be wearing shorts, or a bikini if i’m playing a female character, and somehow that makes more sense than wearing armor?
I wouldn’t go a modern swimsuit route with it. They could do some form of light/medium-looking wetsuit that still looks fantasy appropriate, complete with flippers for footgear. Even stripping down to no armor would look more believable than heavy plate, though I still think there’s not even a slight chance they’d look into changing it. This isn’t the only MMO that doesn’t change your gear appearance when you dive underwater, anyway.
and pray tell how would my sexy bikini block harpoons and shark fangs? it’s a fantasy MMO, suspend your disbelief and just take it for what it is.
I wasn’t suggesting anything lewd like a bikini Bruno, and personally I’d rather fight a megalodon in something that doesn’t make me sink.
That would involve modeling a corresponding armor for each set of armor. (or at least groups of armor). That’ s a tall order unless you can show this is bugging lots of people. I’m fine with how it is now, especially considering how little time I spend in the water (and how much of a death trap water combat is).

I was thinking something simple like
Heavy armor: Wetsuits
Medium: One Piece, Swim Trunks
Light: Bikini, Speedo
And then just have the color match your armor.
I’ve spent quite a lot of time swimming in this game and I can say that, in Tyria, neither gravity nor buoyancy exist underwater. You can see that for yourself if you let your toon be perfectly still. Thus, these changes are not needed, in my opinion.
if my female norn mesmar gets to wear a thong bikini then im all in favour!
Well it could be as simple as light armor wearers get basic halfsuits (wetsuits that only covor half your body for the non-divers, they are popular with women and with people who dive warmer waters), med armor gets a full wetsuit, and heavy armor gets the chainmail sharksuits.
I’d really rather just keep my armour.
Besides, swimming in armour makes more sense than somehow changing your entire outfit in the 1 second it takes you to dive in and out of water. Quickly slapping on the breath mask you keep in your pocket is one thing, changing the lot? Silly.
Also OP, first you say:
“I wasn’t suggesting anything lewd like a bikini Bruno”
then shortly after:
“I was thinking something simple like
Heavy armor: Wetsuits
Medium: One Piece, Swim Trunks
Light: Bikini, Speedo”
Soooo… which is it?
Biknis and speedos are only lewd if you make them that way. Speedos are used by swimmers to reduce friction and are not intended to be more revealing, they just are by chance. Furthermore theres a difference between a bikini that fits correctly and a bikini made out of strings.
I would not be averse to “Town Clothes” swimwear – if it WERE kept underwater, because otherwise people would run around half-clad in LA all the time. (If one could sommehow make it extend to the beach, and no further inland, that would also work.)
But facing death with such flimsy garments? Doesn’t seem right to me, even though KI AM aware full coat-of-plate is equally impractical for opposite reasons.
i always wondered why armor, as bulky as some sets are, don’t weigh down players.

To be fair armor made out of leaves is a thing.
Swimsuits is a great idea, even if they will fall under “vanity items” category.
I am one of those weird RPers and I always strip down to my underwear to swim, even if it involves combat. iRL, no one would try to swim for any length of time in heavy armor let alone try to swim and fight in it.
