Hello everybody,

This is something I would love to see rectified, although I know how slight the actual reality of this may be.

My favorite race to customize are the Sylvari, just for the variety of appearance and rich opportunities for customization. However, when I purchased my cultural armors, I was very perturbed to find that there is a unique dye “feature”. A portion of your cultural armor as a Sylvari is automatically dyed to a “similar” color.

This is Sylvari-exclusive, meaning I don’t have full control over the entire dye scheme of my armor, something I don’t have to deal with on my human/norn/charr/asura. So my point is Arenanet, would it be possible for me to have control of this aspect of my armor? I shouldn’t have to pay to re-customize my entire character’s appearance just so his skin color is congruent with the CURRENT dye scheme that I feel like using. Please, please, please, let me have full control of my dye schemes on my sylvari cultural armor, because, right now it’s pretty ugly.

Here is a picture demonstrating what occurs. (Taken from a Reddit post I made with the very same topic) (And yes, that color clashes with every scheme I try, even if it doesn’t look it)

This is a combination of a suggestion and a humble, desperate request form someone who fervently enjoys the character customization process, and finds this unique dye process to interfere with that customization.

Please say I’m not the only one :_(

Boo! I didn’t realize that this happened with the sylvari cultural armors. I ONLY play sylvari; this would annoy me to no end, too!

It seems to be an unintended side effect of the sylvari’s broad color spectrum that they are more vulnerable to color clashes in aspects of customization that can’t be controlled. This is an example I cited in a thread requesting weapon dyes: a sylvari with black skin, red glow and white hair is going to clash WAY more with a kudzu bow (green/yellow/pink) than say, a human with tan skin, blonde hair and blue eyes.

This problem with the cultural armor is another example of the tendency of sylvari to be mismatched. We need to be able to control the color of our sylvari’s gear!

I’m glad I’m not alone in this, I feel like it’s doubling difficult to coordinate dyes, and often unnecessarily. If only there was enough clout to this issue to see what Anet would say about it. :x

I’ve noticed the same with the Twilight Arbor heavy armour on my Sylvari – there are some brown parts that are always there and never change. Looks awful with almost all colours, only thing I’ve liked so far are darker/brownish reds. Meanwhile I’ve run into other races wearing the same armor in whatever colours, wishing I could change. So frustrating to put in the time running TA to get the armour, then not have it look like I want.

The brown really needs to go. Either make those parts take a 4th dye, or take it out & use the other colours. Please, please fix this!

I quite like that the armour does this, so maybe just add another dye box to the sylvari armours and have that be the parts that are now automatically coloured to fit your skincolour, and then have the dye remover be the automated colour so you can either have it like it was originally made or have full control over the colour of the armour.

Yes, this is what I was hoping for or something along those lines, as the lack of control is quite maddening. (I feel your pain Brockosaurus!) To me, this would be a sufficient solution, as that way, if you really wanted to, you could dye your armor congruent to your character’s skin color. I just rage every time it messes while my dye scheme, which happens quite an awfully large amount of the time. The Sylvari cultural armor is my favorite in terms of style, but this thing with the dye absolutely ruins it.

When I read the title, I thought you were going to talk about the practice of “pressing” live Sylvari to make dyes as I’ve heard is still done by some Asurans.

BTW, I’ve both liked and disliked the way dyes don’t actually dye, but tint the current armor target. Sometimes the results are quite nice and if it didn’t work that way, the underlying fabric texture would be difficult to observe. OTH, as you said with Sylvari, the result can be vastly different than the target color implied by the dye color.

So I thought I’d get a Makeover Kit to experiment with the schemes. Please, ANet, I shouldn’t have to go to these lengths to dye my armor(( Please, just give us control in the dye menu…

I noticed this quite early. (I only play Sylvari btw ^^)
I wanted to color the cultural armor of my ele to look fiery, but as his skin is in a very shiny GREEN it looked awful. :S

Then, I’ve been trying the nightmare light armor on my thief – it looked awful! (his skin is brown, with hair and dye set in colorful autumn tones) Way too much brown in it! Then I went there with my engineer (bright green skin, deep red hair, and a dye combination of his hair’s red, his skin’s green and a darker tone of green) and I was totally blown. THIS combination looked awesome! I had to get it.

I didn’t like it in the beginning too, but it prevents people from running around like clowns. And then, cultural or leafy armor looks more natural, if it uses the original skin color on some parts. If I wanted armor to put on, I could wear common leather or plate or cloth armor, but as I am a plant, I want to grow my armor myself. And it wouldn’t look like that if it hadn’t this… uhm feature?

I’m quite satisfied with how it is right now, if they should ever change it, then they should give us an option to keep it the way it worked before. I can understand both sides, but I’ll go with the status quo.

It was a good idea in concept but yeah… In reality you just have a portion of your armor that looks out of place at best, discolored at worse.

Hopefully it’s changed.

I just hope there’s enough interest in the community that it gets ANet’s attention, I mean, I don’t see why they wouldn’t accommodate a meagre request based on dyes…right?

I am all up for this too~ This is ridiculous, why should one of the most expensive armor set in the game be limited in dyes possibilities by your character’s skin color. And same goes for TA armor set. Just think about it: while other races can easily change their armor color anytime (for example to fit wintersday theme), we have to struggle with this disgusting skin tone invasion on our armors. I’m not saying that it’s impossible to make it look good. I’m saying that changing color themes of our armors without changing skin tone is VERY hard and VERY limited due to one persistent tone that we don’t have control of. In an end our skin tone defines our armor tone. Want a cardinal change in armor? – buy a total makeover kit. Don’t want to spend so much money? – stick to your skin palette.

That’s just mean, I think~ And it makes you envy a lot all those other races who can change their look in a minute, and still look awesome, while if I change it in a cardinal way i have those ugly splotches everywhere.

So please, ether remove this horrible skin-tone blending feature on armor, or let us control it!

OMG that pinkness =.= It’s all over you >.<
And, btw~ Why there? I mean why SO much in the waist area~ It’s like they secrete their skin tone in uncontrollable amounts right there xD Just sweat that stinky color all days long xD

Glad to see I’m not the only one! I’d just like to know why they make it so the Sylvari are the only ones unable to do this. I understand the lore, that the Sylvari grow their own armor.

But there’s plenty of sylvari out there who just wear other armors in the game, and it’s just a massive cosmetic inconvenience.
