At the trading post I have noticed no caps, limits, or diminishing returns (at least I am aware of.) Right now what is stopping a bot form putting thousands of one crafting material on the TP a day? My suggestion is to put a limit on how many things one person/account can sell in one given day on the TP. I do not think it needs to be strict, just something to insure bot level selling is reduced.

I don’t like this idea as I personally like to play the TP and the other day found myself with more than 1000 items for sale. tho I do have an alternative idea that Ill post in a different thread.

Bots need to be stopped behind the scenes, not by limiting everyone. I don’t play the markets or go through large quantities of items on a daily basis – but some legitimate players do and shouldn’t have to be penalised.

Fair enough.

Do you think these legitimate players are selling at a level equal to the bots(not that i condone selling lots of things, just botting.) if so then my solution is rubbish. If not than why not set a cap that a legitimate player cannot reach, but a bot can?

Because, once the bot coders know of the limit, they will reprogram their bots to avoid it. Which has a side effect of making them harder to detect, since if the activity level is unable to be hit by human players then anyone exceeding it is an obvious bot. But adding the limit means bots will no longer hit that activity level.

In the long run, detecting and banning the bots is the only realistic solution. Trying to limit their damage is only going to make bots harder to detect and/or hurt regular players.

Did not think of it that way. Makes sense though.

The thing about bots isn’t about how many items or how much money goes through a single bot – but what they’re capable of as a collective. I would say that a moderately wealthy player playing the trading post, buying and selling on for a profit, could easily go through more items than a single bot – as could a player who wanted to do a large crafting stint.

Personally, I don’t think that your solution is ideal – but I wouldn’t call it rubbish. It would have some effect, even if there were side effects; and it also shows that you’re trying to find a solution. However, I have played another game which sadly did take this approach… it lead to player being unable to get the basic supplies they needed for their crafting skills; while bots still ran rampant (half of some servers populations weren’t human =/).

I said this on another similar post, but I will say it again as it is good advice;

DO NOT BUY GOLD FROM GOLD-SELLERS!!!!

If there are no costumers there is no business!

Areananet could just give people a better deal in the gem store. Then there will not be enough profit for gold sellers.
