Temple Of Balthazar
If you’ve never seen it open, you obviously aren’t looking often enough. While it’s not open frequently during the week, one can often find it open on the weekend.
Yes, it’s a pain to open it. Yes, it takes too long.
But, you can find it open more than once a week. Try looking on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Sometimes it’s even open on Mondays. I think it was open last Monday on Blackgate. Not really sure what the story is for EU servers though.
Like the thankfully departed AC Forward-Up path, the problem is an imbalance between the difficulty and stupendous effort required and the crap rewards for finally doing it.
This is a ubiquitous problem in GW2, partially addressed in the recent release which now at least rewards one gold for dungeon explorables. But the larger problem remains: blue and green trash items for completing lengthy and sometimes arduous level 80 events and tasks. Only occasionally does a Rare item drop, and the chances of an Exotic are 1:500 or so, with the Exotic item generally being unusable if it finally does drop.
How many 80’s does Anet think actually equip blues and greens? They’re just salvage fodder. Even throwing them in the Mystic Toilet usually results in just another useless blue or green!
So yeah, Balth just takes too much time & trouble to open even now that we need shards from there. That’s why you don’t see it open very often, and you won’t until Anet balances rewards with the difficulty level and effort required.
It’s not just that it takes too long or that it’s “hard” it mainly comes down to how many people does it take to complete a broken temple event? We’ve attempted it many times on Darkhaven, only to have the pre-events bug out completely and ruin the consecutive events that you HAVE to do.
Some of the events reset on different timers: Dropping pact moral.
Some events need defended, while the main escort is starting: Drops moral.

They don’t need better rewards you get plenty of loot (mostly salvageables and mats) and the temple isn’t even hard, it’s just broken… and ANET needs to fix it or no one will ever be able to get their Obsidian Shards. Quit focusing on grind-fest living stories and actually get this game out of it’s beta stage -_-

Well, I like the Balthasar-pres quite much. Of course you get a sh**load of greens and blues that are only good for salvaging, but also lots of bags with T6 mats, that are often (whole south-pre done) worth 2 – 4 G (if you are lucky).
The bad thing with this event is, that the whole SoD area isn’t designed very good. Usually people, if not there for map completion, are only running trough there with their toons to get them to the next ML/CS WP. One big issue: too many WP are contested and even if you free them, they are retaken in seconds – so you won’t do it and nobody wants to port there (because you have a veeeeery long way to events like Balth or EoZ).
And yeah, it sucks that the Balthasar event instafails if the moral drops down and you have to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, so even less people want to do this (very) long (and hard) event chain. Why not let them retreat 3 – 4 times before that? I know you can do the Balthasar event with very few people if all goes well and everyone uses the nearby MOAB-grenade kit, but the last few steps are such a PITA…
And that’s why the temple usually is hardly open for business.
