Could you please remove the Shades’ “Hurr durr I’m far from you and I’m going to pump up and you’re going to down because I want” debuff thing?

It’s totally unfair since you can get insta-downed when a bunch pop at once, it’s newbie-unfriendly because I’m tired of trying to explain that we must focus on Shades than the Priest, but I can’t control 20+ players, and if they can’t read the event box I doubt they’re reading what I’m typing too.

It’s also the first (that I can remember) event in the entire game that makes the feel more frustrated the more players there are. I wish they could just leave it alone so I can slowly solo it (over an hour) and they just come for the second part so everyone gets tons of loot.

It’s also the first event in the game that whenever people call on chat “Need more for Grenth”, I avoid it on purpose even if I’m nearby just because I know it’s a waste of time and gold.

It’s okay if the Shades debuff us whenever they HIT us, allowing people to kite, or to play balancing the amount of debuffs and running when it’s high.

It’s totally stupid to go down instantly because there’s 20 guys focusing on the Priest and Shades are spawning faster than I can target them.

It’s also totally stupid that they don’t spawn at all when this happens, so we have 20+ Shades on the room, making it a pre-failed event that it’s also HARD to make it fail so we can reset it.

In the SS I was frantically killing Shades, a group managed to kill 10 or so, and there were still roughly 20+ in the room (and more spawning), getting me 15~ stacks of the debuff forcing retreat.
(Thankfully I’m playing an Elementalist so getting down and moving back where they don’t follow was nice, but I’m thinking on the poor fellows who can’t do that… they die, and less than 10% of them ever come back)

tbh they are not that bad… until you have a lot of people there, the debuff stacks fairly slowly even when a lot spawn at once, the issue is when you start getting lots of people there not only do you get more shades spawn, they start raising in level, level 80 ones are easily burnt down by a couple of dps chars, 82 ones (this is what you should get with a “reasonable” amount of people there) can be dealt with by a dedicated little group when they start hitting level 84 it takes an entire team of dps built characters to dent even 1 shade in a reasonable amount of time.

there ridiculous level scaling is probably the worst part of this event other than perhaps the whole protecting the npc from new players kiting boss to him (more so than the potential instant death vortexes after they got scaled down in size to a manageable amount).

For a “world event” its a bit nasty punishing having so many people so much, I’ve seen coordinated raids fail due to the health scaling (this is groups very much coordinating).

That said if they nerfed them too much the event wouldn’t be half as fun but currently if I see a “Grenth need more” call I shake my head and ignore it as thats very much counter productive to the 2 most dangerous mechanics in the event (shades scaling and chance for grenth to be dragged to the npc)

Agreed with original poster. Just one thing I may add, use the buffs to the left and right ( they look like swirling dust bowls) to help protect you against the shades.

they don’t protect you, they increase the speed of the stacking but allow you to actually hurt the shades. (Unless you mean running back into them to remove the buff to slow the stacks)

I dislike how suddenly the shades instantly down you during this battle. It doesn’t even seem like they are anywhere near you, or like they hit you. You’re just on the floor suddenly.

The battle would be better if it some how demanded that players used the buffs, and killed the shades. Right now most players ignore the shades, focusing only on the priest.
