That Gem store....$10 minimum
I would assume ANet is charged a certain amount for each transaction through PayPal or credit card companies, most retailers are. $10 is more than likely where the upward trend of profitability starts.
Ever wonder why when you sometimes order Chinese food there is a $20 minimum?

Never had that issue before. It always came out that expensive anyway, back when I had money.

with paypal thats about 2% plus .30 cents per transaction.

Just doing the math explains that then..
5$ transaction costs ANet 40 cents, a 10$ transaction costs ANet 50 cents. $20 is 70 cents. 50$ – $1.3. $100 – $2.3.
Only costs then 10 cents more to make double the money. That’s why there isn’t a 5 dollar (really 5 dollar sign comes out as kitten??) option.
PS: thanks for the info – didn’t know the %s

I am no economics expert and maybe someone who is could clarify this for me but as i see it, if 5$ option was added, you would tap into the large pool of gamers that actually bought the game because of the one time fee. I know that Steam as well has a minimum 10$ for some reason. Are they basing this trend off some chart? Surely losing a few cents on overall transactions makes up in all the people who are solemnly willing to spend only 5$.

Not a chart, pure profit margins. Its the same idea as why all airlines overbook the flight, there is a certain % of people who will not make their flight in time, which in turn costs them the same amount of money to fly the plane, but they make less if the plane isn’t full. Tons of statistical analysis goes into this kind of stuff. They know the numbers and the percentages and are comfortable will putting an “entry” point into how much you can spend at minimum.
If a 5 dollar transaction times 400,000 per month could ultimately end up costing ANet money, rather than making money. You have to think about the power, programming, hosting space, monitoring and all of the other items that go into running an online video game. Putting in a 5 dollar option could cause more traffic, which costs them more money overall.
There is more to it than this of course and I’m no Economist.
Why don’t gamers just spend 10$ every 2 months rather than 5 every month?
srsly why is 5 dollar sign marked as kitten..

I suppose that makes sense, but they’re still making a large profit. I could understand if it was required and out of their hands due to some agreement, but I really don’t think they should have much to worry about from a simple $5 option
