So I was thinking there has got to be some way to prevent KITTENS who just want the fast cash and for some reason do not just sell to the highest buyer, thus screwing everyone who has been dependent on the price selling for more. It’s getting a bit obnoxious, but who knows, maybe it is just me?
So I was thinking why not make it so people may only under cut a certain % every X amount of time?
We have Joe.
Joe wants to sell his PlayKitten (PK) mag.
Joe sees that the highest buyer for a PlayKitten (PK) is 55c. The lowest seller is at 90c. He says, ‘hmm I want the money now’ and SELECTS the ‘undercut this kitten’ option (This is the new option I think would be a good idea on adding). This would be a selection that automatically undercuts the lowest seller by a certain percentage. Lets go with 5% for kittens and giggles. 5% of 90 is 4.5, so now this option would automatically make the price 86c (yes the option would even round numbers!).
X in this scenario will be 24 hours. Now we need another % this will be the % that decides weather or not to lower the current lowest price down to 86c.
Were going to put this % at 60.
We will also put an ‘Overflow’ % which will be at 80.
And one more, which will be at 100.
Now then, lets say today (at the end of the 24 hour period) there were exactly 100,000 (for easy math) copies of PK sold. lets say 90% of the people that sold them, sold them USING the ‘undercut this kitten’ option or selling to players asking for cheaper. This is above the 80% overflow mark so it would set the lowest sell-able price WITHOUT using the ‘undercut this kitten’ option down two notches. A notch in this scenario will also be at 5%.
The price was at 90, and 5% of 90 is at 4.5, and b/c it hit our 2nd notch (the 60% mark) instead of bringing down the price to 85, the system would bring it down to 81 (4.5 +4.5 = 9, 90-9=81).
NOW the ‘undercut this kitten’ option is at 5% of our lowest seller again, which is now 77c (5% of 81 is ALMOST exactly 4), while the lowest a seller may sell without selecting the option is at 81c.
IF the amount of items sold using the ‘undercut this kitten’ option or selling to players asking for cheaper were at 70% instead then the price would drop only one notch (5% of 90 = 4.5, 90-4.5(rounding)=86). This would have made the new ‘undercut this kitten’ option 82 while the lowest a seller may sell without selecting the option is at 86c.
For 100% of the players using ‘undercut this kitten’ option or selling to players asking for cheaper, then it would bring the price down 3 notches at the end of the 24 hour period.
HOW THE PRICE WOULD GO UP
The price would go up the same way, just opposite.
The marks would be at 40%, 20% and 0%
40% = 1 notch, going up in price by 5%
20% = 2 notches, going up in price by 5%
00% = 3 notches, going up in price by 5%
If 20% of the people sold to players using ‘undercut this kitten’ option or selling to players asking for cheaper, then the price would go up by 2 notches.
Of course 50% would keep the price the same.
Ok well that’s my idea, just thought I would post it and see what happens, please tell me any hole you find in this, and/or comments in general, thanks!

Every time I see posts trying to “fix” the prices on the trading post, I have to shake my head and sigh.
Undercutting is a natural and integral part of supply and demand, and works fine. Trying to manipulate it is not helpful.
Prices are low because supply is mountainous. If you got something easy (Ie. you found five of them while doing quests, you crafted ten of them you don’t need just so you could level your crafting skill,) then so did each of the two million other players—and they don’t need them either.
For the majority of equipment items 1-79, the trading post basically boils down to players swapping around these greens at cost until they have the ones that work for them, there’s absolutely no reason to expect to be able to make money from other players off these kinds of items.
For other items that are not already floored at their NPC price, it’s completely natural for prices to be dropping day to day as more and more players level higher and higher and the items become commonplace.
