I had this idea a few months ago but forgot to post it. I told it to my guilies and they loved it. I thought it would be semi-far fetched that Anet would add it, but since they added an unlimited use mining pick, why not this?

Add a new training manual to Class Trainers called the “Professional’s Training Manual” for 25g which allows the one character you use it on to reset their traits whenever they want, as many times as they want, as long as they are not in combat.

Once used on the toon you want, it adds a “Reset” button to the “Traits” panel under the Hero window. Pressing it will reset all traits to 0 just as if you spent 3.5 silver (at level 80) at a trainer, for free.

This would be an excellent gold sink for people who really want to try out new builds. Its would be a “god send” to all the people who want to make new builds. Once the 25g has been spent, they won’t have to worry about having money on hand to re-spec, or run back into town to talk to a trainer if they want to move traits around when perfecting their new build.

Sure, you can go into the Mists and try out new builds there on some npc’s, but as time goes on, PvE and PvP skills and traits are starting to separate. Also, if this sounds too OP because you can re-trait whenever you want in a dungeon before a particular boss. The option to “reset” traits while in an instance can be disabled. I personally don’t think it would be OP though.

At level 80, it costs 3.5 silver to reset traits. At 25g, you would have to re-spec 715 times to cover the cost of this manual. That’s years of re-spec’ing on one character.
Most people won’t think this is a good buy. Alot of people dont think the Molten Alliance Mining Pick is a good buy either. But there are alot of people who do. I’m willing to bet Anet would see lots of gold disappear if this was added.

25g for eternal changing your trait when you want?
I don’t think you’ll need 1y to return your gold. This will be used as an abused: before each fight on bosses, they’ll change the spec suitable for that single boss. Plus if you go pug it will anoy people when you every time need 2min for changing your trait.

I like what they do now: only in certain places you got the oppertunity to change the trait.
Beside you still can change the mayor trait when you’re out of combat…how cool is that!

Well, when i first came up with this idea, i thought it should cost 50g. But that means you would have to re-spec 1429 times to break even and thats alot. But seeing as that was my first thought and i was total on board with buying it at that price, i’d still like to see it in game.

And as far as waiting for someone to re-spec constantly in a dungeon. Either warn them before hand that your group won’t allow it and kick them if they do (just like you kick people for not having enough AR for a high level Frac run or having magic find gear). Or Anet can decide that you can’t reset traits while in an instance like a Dungeon or Personal Story. Who cares if you reset your traits before beating on a boss roaming about on a map. Nothing stopping 30 other people from coming in and stomping on it with you. So if you re-spec, not going to make that much difference.

The idea is more for people who want to try out new builds and to help out other people to create new builds.

No please dont go here!
I totally understand why you are asking this but no. The respec handicap is created to forge people to make it difficult to change and to work on character development.

In GW1 people where too much specialised in the task ahead. Many tricks only started to show up after many years of playing. But the ability to change your skills and attributes whenever you where in a town made that you could change from a solo farming tank to a dps machine with 3 mouseclicks. Now people are forced to decide how they want to play the game. You can always change the path, but with a handicap.

715 times (even 1429) aint years of re-speccing, far from, since a lot if not most ppl would then likely ahve a build to use from WvW, one from Dungeons, and one for open world PVE (hell even have one for solo open world and one for when running with a group), and if you then swap between those content types multiple times a day, well you could quite easily get a 20-30 swaps a day so that is a month or 2 or evne if you in the very low end (say 5-10 swaps a day) not much more than half a year for most.

That said something like this is imo not something that should cost money, the difference between a good build in open world PVE and just dungeons can be quite big, let alone a WvW is a WHOLE different world(no pun intended) of builds if you want to be optimal. with easier access to build swapping i bet we would see a LOT more supportish builds in dungeons, but as is now you have to have a decent DPS or open world get boring where you do spend a lot of time too. but even if they wont make it free something like this is a good alternative though

I think something better than an infinite use manual is to allow each character to save two builds that they can switch between out of battle. They would still cost money to reset and would require you to reset them at the trainer but would allow you to not have to re-spec so often if you switch between content like ANet intended.
