The Quality of ArenaNet European Servers - Lag
Unfortunately I have to agree!
I’m in germany, playing on Desolation (EU) and have no problem whatsoever with anything but Guild Wars 2 lags from time to time.
I have 32Mbit internet, forward all necessary ports (just to be sure) and there is nothing else taking bandwith when I play the game, so…
It wasn’t that bad the last two days (at least for me, heart different things from guild friends), but especially in WvW or big PvE groups there have been times since release where it really started to getkittenannoying and I just did quit the game because I just couldn’t enjoy it anymore. You can actually read about lags from other players in chat or from guild members as well, so it’s not an single user problem.
My biggest lag these days was actually in a story mission where I was alone and it wasn’t really much going on on my screen, but I had lags of 3-4 seconds. My guild experienced similar things in other content areas at the same time.
I love the game, but I have a lot of things that I think have to get fixed or improved (i.e. event difficulty), but for me lags are currently the biggest concern! If you have a bugged event or something like that, leave it alone and it won’t hurt you that much, but lags, you can’t run away from them!
A game that is about combat and reaction, skills that trigger delayed or not at all, that’s just a no-go!
So, whatever is necessary to provide us with a lag-free experience, I’m all for it! But to some degree I think we are alone with that philosophie…
I’m playing from the Netherlands and on a laptop, the only time I get lag is when I stand in front (or under) of a big dragon with around 250 other players, each with his/hers own spells and animations.
All other times, no lag. I’m glade i haven’t have the same experience as you do and I do hope you can do something about it. Mostly it’s more about your system/PC then about the game

UK. Fibre-optic internet. High speed. No issues.
Sorry OP, but if you’re having issues, you better start looking at your infrastructure because it would seem that you are accusing the wrong people.
Goodluck though, I feel for you. Hope it all works out fine.
Next to no lag on my side either, in NL. What you describe as ‘everything standing still and then everything happening at once’ is something I haven’t seen in this game, ever. Not even in the early beta stage where every skill press had 1-2 seconds delay. To me it always seems like the world is standing still while the server lags.
What you describe sounds like graphic lag, where your GPU can’t keep up with all the graphics and/or is overheating. It then periodically stops doing anything to prevent it from crashing. When it’s cooled down, it processes all the previous frames rapidly to get back to the current time. I have this when I play on my laptop.
I don’t understand why you blame the computer specs. Are you serious?
So let me elucidate all of you for simple facts:
1. Why do I only lag between 6 to 8 P.M. GMT?
2. Through 9 to 11 P.M. GMT everything works just fine, no lag at all.
3. I play this game along with some friends on the above times and we also lag like hell and can’t play Guild Wars 2.
4. Since we cannot play Guild Wars between 6 to 8 P.M. GMT we go play other games, like League of Legends or World of Tanks and we don’t lag at those games, perhaps is not problem of our connection (sarcasm off).
5. The lags started to happen this week and yesterday I did CoF dungeon and every single player in my party had the same issue, lag lag lag lag lag lag.
6. I have a good computer with all the latest drivers, a desktop: i5 2500k, 560GTX Ti 2GB, 8GB RAM.
Really, don’t judge what you don’t know, those answers blaming the computer or the person behind the computer are just simple and idiotic. I know what I’m talking about, trust me. Also, like I said, I’m not the only one having this issue. So don’t blame me like I’m the only one lagging on the kitten game.
The server where I play is Seafarer’s Rest.
Also, I live on the farthest side of Western Europe, Portugal.
I really would like for Anet to look into this. It reminds me the first hour of the first beta, everyone trying to log-in and impossible to play.
Well so far, i experienced lag 1 or 2 times which lasts very short…
There are differences between graphical issues like FPS drops and a frozen screen for seconds and if you can run around smoothly but your skills doesn’t trigger at all or trigger seconds after the activation, or if you move something in your inventory it will take seconds until it is moved….
So, I’ve to agree with Ohoke, just because you don’t have any problems with lags (what is definitely good for you), don’t think that proves that it is a client side problem… Everytime we experience such lags, you can read in chat or often hear in Mumble/TS about someone having the same problems at that moment.
The problem is most likely related to the (overflow)server you are playing on, what causes some players experiencing lags, others don’t.
Sure, sometimes it could probably be an issue on the provider side, but if you have no problem with any other online game, just with Guild Wars 2, especially in prime time hours since release, than I don’t see much chances than that it’s a problem on their side!
