I cannot understand why the /deaths prefix is there as I was challenging myself to have the least deaths up to level 80 and I did die 3 times up to (I’m level 51 now).

But last night I got some lag very bad and when I logged back in I was dead, so I now have died 4 times, once not my fault due to the lag…

My point is why have the /deaths as no one would be able to get to level 80 without dying due to getting lag like me.

My previous best was level 80 with 10 deaths, on a bonus note, I’m going to beat my old deaths total. If I don’t get any lag again.

PS – I vote for the /deaths prefix to be taken out of the game, it’s so annoying and pointless.

Why?? if you dont like it, just dont use it
If you want to challenge yourself this way, try to recognise lag issues (last night there where issues) and dont play that character then.

I know someone who went to the the new bazaar map with his character he wanted to prevent from deaths.

Arise, ye farmers of all nations
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

Well there’s the problem: The /deaths functionality is not just for counting deaths pre-80.

Most of the time, “If you don’t like it, don’t use it” isn’t a complete answer to a problem, because “using it” will usually confer some sort of advantage, like an easy win, quick gold, or something, and not using it puts the player at a disadvantage.

In this case, though, there is no reward for having any given number of /deaths. It’s solely for a person’s individual curiosity, if they’re interested, and if they’re not, they don’t have to use it. It might be interesting to an individual player, and is generally meaningless to everyone else.

On the subject of lag tripping you up and getting you killed, that’s one reason I like the GW2 version of “Lifetime Survivor” being simply “Get _ XP in a single stretch without dying,” instead of “Get ______ XP with a character who has never died.” If you get laggy and die by accident, you’ll have to start over on the run, but at least you don’t have to start over on the character like you would in GW1.
