The lakes/oceans feel so empty..
Adding boat fishing would be amazing!
I think in some places having boats on the water would be a little contrary to the aesthetics of the area, but certainly more things like the logs/fishermen out on the water in Queensdale would be nice.
I don’t know how well player boats would work though. What you may gain in the immersion of seeing someone boating rather than swimming you may lose in seeing a whole flotilla of small boats in populous areas.

Perhaps boating should only be in specific lakes, and would be of limited use. There could be an npc you can talk to, and rent out a boat for a limited time, and if there are too many players using it, it could either queue you to use a boat, or tell you to ask again.
I believe fishing is something Arena Net said they want to bring into the game at some point. I can’t find the exact quote, but they pretty much implied that they were working on getting it right before implementing it. Depending on how that was done, it’d be a brilliant way to bring more action to the lakes, rivers and oceans of Tyria!

Would love to see a good implementation of fishing, but not holding my breath – which reminds me I need to upgrade that breather…
