Well, to be honest, Asura kinda got a mount already. They got that awesome golem suit they can hop in for extremely limited time. Now, that is a type of mount I have nothing against.
But horses? No.
Ride-able dragons? Seriously…
Charr riding moa? Totally makes sense.
A mount that gives you huge advantage (permanent speedboost) with zero sacrifice? Why not just give everyone a skill that gives you one gold coin when used?
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.

I agree, I was mostly taking a jab at asura’s short stature

I have waypoints they get me from A to B quickly
I agree, I was mostly taking a jab at asura’s short stature
I’m an Asura…
I wouldn’t mind riding a Sylvari, but Charr can be just too unreasonable mounts at times. What with all those death threats, claws and teeth.

Honest question, have you ever used the suit? Because it sucks. Hard. It’s slow, it can’t hit for anything, and it has crazy low defense. Any Asura you ever meet with the skill will regret the 10 skill points they spent on that suit.
This game needs mounts. Waypoints suck, and are way too expensive.
I take it you’re too poor and impotent to scrape out a few silver every jump you make?
Perhaps you should earn gold like the rest of us to salve this issue. Waypoints are a gold sink to keep inflation down.
…Not to imply Anet’s brilliant idea to make legendaries sellable is helping, but that’s another topic for another thread.
So that’s the only problem? Really? Good! Mount require caring and feeding like a Tamagotchi. Gold sink Problem solved.

Unreasonable? My claws and teeth will protect you better.
Anyway +1 for the mounts!
For Arena Net: make them very expensive and sell mount accessory and skins at TP.
Ride-able dragons? Seriously…
I would be highly in favor of a bonedragon mount.
It is awesome! (bonedragon mount in GW1 near the end of the video)

I would like to see cosmetic mounts.
I don’t need a speed boon (though my Mesmer could definitely use it), I just need it for roleplay purposes.
Actually, the Riding Broom is a cosmetic mount, now that I think about it…
Astrid Strongheart, Norn Ranger.
“I wish juvenile wolves were bigger”
Kinda don’t miss mounts. Give me a way to get a 40% out of combat speed boost on a short cooldown with every profession, I’d be happy.
It’s obvious that the game needs epic mounts for epic world!!!! all the good games had mounts !! I hear people that say that it will be unbalanced. this is the most rediculus thing i have heard! Weak up people all the games had mounts. they were unbalanced??? Expept from mounts it would be epic to combat with the mounts with skills for every weapon! This would be an epic situation .
If they added mounts, I would hope it would have the physics of defiance. I want to ramp of stuff and just have fun riding(or driving) around. Think of the vehicles in Black Citadel, I’ve wanted to drive one of those since I saw it.
Remember the siege devourer in EotN? That was a mount. Ok you couldn’t keep it, you had to pick it up again from it’s spawn if you lost it. But it worked as a mount. lot of fun too, especially with it’s mad devourer dance emote

I’d like to see mounts, just as another vanity item like minis. No speed boost, no benefit of any kind. They’d just look neat.
I’m pretty sure the other mounts thread was over 100 pages last I saw, and people in favor of mounts made a ton of great points, while people against the idea basically just said they personally didn’t want them.
I see no reason to not give players something else to collect.
Sure, horses are extinct. There are other things you could saddle up and ride around. Dolyaks (which were NPC mounts in GW1, along with these ugly giant hamster things), cows, oakhearts, bears, drakes. I could even see an undead mount, honestly, if we’re going for lore-ish reasons they could exist.
Sylvari, rangers, maybe even elementalists could probably ‘charm’ an oakheart. Undead mounts? Necromancers.
And let’s be real here. They had us killing giant rabbits and moas and nobody complained, but talk about wanting to sit on a pretty beasty? Oh no. That’s blasphemous.

Also the Junundu were basically a mount, similar to the Seige Devourer.

There’s no reason to avoid it if it’s simply another vanity item. If you don’t want them, don’t get them. It’d be silly to add a speed increase since, as has been used to counter any reason to add mounts, waypoints exist.
When people talk about mounts, they typically want flying and speed boosts. As long as they don’t give that, I can’t really say I care how Arenanet handles it.

It’s unfortunate that more people don’t think that. I’ve talked to a few who are so opposed to the idea of mounts at all that they’ve basically said they’d quit if they ever were implemented, even with no speed increase or anything.
Which is really a bummer.
I think that even if they added mounts, waypoints may still be used especially since some events would end or come close to an end as you arrived only via your mount from farther locations. I wouldn’t worry about the stoppage of waypoint use. Overall a great summary and I believe that Anet has given us NO REASON as to why we shouldn’t have mounts in the game.
I think that even if they added mounts, waypoints may still be used
Ofcourse they Will. Mounts will be cosmetic, maybe a charge skill for speed (with cool down) or a funny interaction and sounds. Legendary weapons don’t give anything beside looks and so should mounts. I will com on this post over and over until his small and cute feature will be implemented.
Please never add mounts to this game.
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!
I’ll probably shop around for another mmo if mounts do end up getting a definite no.
As time goes on things look grim for mounts especially with a nonsensical hostility about them coming from the community.
I just hope that my dream for a horse in gw2 can come true because I know that gw2 is a hard game to replace.
1. If mounts are all that’s kept you here to begin with, go play WoW. They’ve got lots of mounts. Horses and ponies and dragons and mammoths. It’d be your wet dream. Really.
2. Nonsensical? You and the people you concur with are insulting the opposition left and right and being passive-aggressive. Of course the opposition is going to be ‘nonsensically hostile’. That, and you pretend that they don’t make an argument by ignoring the ones they do make.
3. I agree, GW2 is a hard game to replace. It’s great, I love it here. But if your horses are the one thread you’ve been hanging onto since launch, it isn’t the great game for you and never was.
I don’t like the line: go play another game. People don’t like mounts for various reasons, but rarely they think of the fact that Anet could implement them in their own unique way. Why would it be bad to have a mount, nearly every fantasy-story/movie/series has them.
I’m all in favour for mounts, because they bring more collectible-variety to the game. (if they would add enough of them). The more variety, the better imho.
I think there should be mounts, they have already given 2 “mounts” on the gem store they dont have a speed boost or anything but I’m sure there will be one out soon that will and it will probably only be available on the gem store and that will upset a lot of people, cause I’m one person that don’t buy gems cause I like a lot of others think most of the money purchases from the gem store go straight to NcSoft and not to Anet and therefore not to Game Development, so I would never buy one and be left behind and that would upset me and give me reason to leave.
Though I would like mounts in the game, I like the idea, I just think they should be a cultural thing, a type of mount for each race, kinda like WoW had.

The absurdity of this silly opposition is reaching the stars…
1) I don’t like WoW but I like mounts. I don’t want a pony, I want a Moa for my Asura. I don’t want a Mammoth, I want a Dolyak for my Norn. So I demand mounts in GW2., and trust me I shall get them. We already have mountable items in Gem Store so it’s been proven a great success.
2) Yep… Nonsensical! There were no real arguments against mounts. Just because WoW has mounts doesn’t mean a thing. Why don’t you reject dungeons? WoW used it before Guild Wars 1 was made. And instances. And many many more features that define a good MMO today. It’s plain stupid to send a player to get WoW for this. It would be a damage to the community which is already getting slimmer.
3. FYI Guild Wars 2 had many improvements doe to capable and inventive players on these forums. The examples are countless. From bug fixes to class balancing, to item design, events, etc, etc. Riding is a thing thousands will enjoy. Do you understand???
Conclusion: Mounts will not affect players who don’t use it in any way. They will not byte you, they will not smell and they will poop on the pathways. Most likely they will be the same animals you already see around the maps and even the cites. So my friend the solution is simple. We ride, you walk.

give mounts brawler abilities and that’s it, nothing more.
Personally….I think the Waypoint system makes the game a bit dull. There is no feeling of success or achievement for traveling to a far away land. Everything is too easily accessible and it takes away from the feeling of any type of accomplishment. Yes, it makes things easier. But it also makes the world feel smaller and less alive in my opinion. Maybe in a future expansion they can add mounts and the “new lands” that are discovered will have little to no waypoints. That is how they would successfully implement mounts….(or they can just revamp the waypoint system and implement mounts).

I would agree that mounts aren’t really needed, considering we have easy swiftness boons, waypoint traveling and so on. However, I also agree that some battles don’t feel as epic as they would if we had mounts. In other words, my opinion is that if mounts are added, their purpose should be way beyond increasing your speed and making you look good. I hope that mounted combat could be one thing to look for in the future.
One thing I’m personally looking forward to are sieges which players can drive (such as Charr tanks, forgot their names).
I am strongly against mounts (as I’ve said may times before) but if stats-based mounts are implemented then every character has to have one by default to prevent balancing issues and pay-to-win mechanics in PvP.

Quote.
Mounts, anyway, may work if intended as Environmental Weapons that change your weapons skill, that can be found in the world rather than be bound to the character/account, and that grant no real advantages (or just little one), same as other environmental weapons do.
Mounts should be mainly about roleplaying.

I think mounts would be a very good addition to the game. Just think about leveling, when you have to go by foot to explore and discover new areas. Those are places you cannot teleport to yet and a mount would be more than welcome. Then there’s wvw , a place where you can do so many things with mounts!
People might find this hard to believe but collecting mounts and just run around on a mount is part of the fun of an mmo. Plus, a cool looking mount is epic. If you add mounts to the game or even the store, players WILL want to buy/get them. You can even add special rare mounts that drop from certain dungeons or can be obtained via completing a future living story chain or achievements.
So many things can be done and they can make the game so much more interesting and fun !! I strongly suggest Anet should consider adding mounts to the game.
Why would it be bad to have a mount, nearly every fantasy-story/movie/series has them.
That analogy would work better if you changed “fantasy-story-/movie/series” to “aids epidemic”, as the effect on the game would better mimic what it does to what you are referencing.
GW2 has horses in lore. And cavalry. And dragons and ponies and serpents. Want to hear something interesting? It’s the mechanic that Anet is avoiding, not the concept. The world has them, we just have no need of them and Anet has far better things to do than introduce horses. There are glaring issues in the game and bots, while greatly hampered, are still around. I’m not going to bother going into what mounts do to the game, I said it earlier.

1. WvWvW? Really? The swiftness zergs are hard enough to detect and react to as it is if they know what they’re doing. With mounts they’ll traverse the map in a matter of seconds and descend upon camps and towers, taking them before anyone even has time to react.
2. If I were a griefer and had a dolyak, where do you think I’d hang out? A jumping puzzle, that’s where. Secondly, if you aren’t willing to cross the world on foot and actually put effort into going the distance rather than speedrunning the whole experience, it will matter less to you when you finally complete it. You’ll say, “Wow, that was boring and useless.” Just like you would if you explored the world on your hot pink armored unicorn dragon mammoth in another MMO that doesn’t at all break immersion.
3. There are places you cannot teleport because the game is meant to be challenging and to encourage exploration. If you could teleport everywhere, it’d be rather bland, don’t you think? Throwing in some 200% speed armored dolyaks isn’t going to change this.

Well done on starting the quote war. I couldn’t have done it better myself. Since you’re so eager, let’s begin.
1. Firstly, Hahaha. You’re in no position to demand anything of Anet. The entitled “I’m the player! I should get what I ask for!” mindset won’t get you far around here or anywhere else, probably because adding mounts is more complicated than just adding a dolyak and placing a sitting player model on one with a speed buff. There’s a lot to consider when you add a mechanic like that and it takes a long time to perfect. Brooms and drills in the store are cosmetic and you’re claiming them to be a ‘great success’. Hm, it’s almost like you’re saying anything that you put your crotch on from the gem store is a success. Interesting, never seen that one.
Secondly, I’m not telling you to go back or basing my entire blasted argument off of WoW. Actually, judging by your post, you haven’t even read my argument. Back a few pages or something, I’m not about to re-post it or go hunting for it. I’ve had to do it too many times with these tautologous threads and I grow weary. Check my ‘highly rated posts’, it’s in there somewhere. Basically, I’m suggesting another game to him. It has mounts en masse, the one and only reason he’s stuck around for this game, as he’s said. If he likes mounts so much, I figured I’d point him in another direction. If I was saying “GO BACK TO WOW NOOB U R A LOSER” you’d probably see that in my post. You might notice a cold tone, but that’s only out of frustration at how people don’t read arguments and pretend they don’t exist//outright insult people with different opinions.
2. See part of #1. Inject observation and come back later.
3. No, I don’t understand. This part is poorly written. You’re trying to say that players on these forums have great suggestions and are inventive, okay. Are you trying to say that mounts are one of the improvements? Secondly, riding is a thing thousands will enjoy? What about all the others that will be affected by how the riding will change the game and future expansions? What about how exploration will become a bland chore in comparison to what it is now, an lengthy, challenging activity with nice rewards?

Hey guise you know why other MMOs have mounts? Because they don’t have any form of transportation other than walking! Isn’t that crazy?

It’s quite difficult to explore the area while waypointing
Not really. You run around the map until you almost got every point and then you use waypoints to get the ones you missed.

So you’re incapable of killing maybe 1-5 mobs at each waypoint in order to make up for the cost of it via trash drops? I’m absolutely horrible with money in GW2 since I always spend it as soon as I earn it, and even with less than 1g total across all my characters I have no problem with waypoints. Unless you have less than 10s across your account, you don’t need any more money to use waypoints.
EDIT:
And @ Frosty and Frosty, I commend you for having the most common sense in this thread.

I personally don’t think GW2 needs mounts that give any sort of bonus.
Maybe just cosmetic like how the drill and the witch’s broom work.
The game itself has so many waypoints to go from Point A to Point B, it’s really not needed to have any mounts besides looking good.

I think this is the kind of mount 95% of the people want, to have some collectible for vanity, not to give a speedboost necessarily

I don’t see a point in mounts, they just don’t fit in with the game, imo.

Deadly terrain
I would love to see environments that cannot be crossed, except by mounts. In GW1 we had the Desolation with its toxic sands, which could only be crossed by Junundu wurms. But in GW2 I can imagine deadly snowstorms, that can only be crossed with a long hair Dolyak. These mounts could be available at Dolyak stations, for any player to pick up, and would only be usable in that particular zone.
While on the back of your mount, your skills would be replaced by a custom skillbar for that mount. Dolyak’s could have charge attacks for example. Mounted combat would definitely be possible, although it would probably be the mount itself that would be doing all the fighting (although it would be awesome if both were possible at the same time).

You can do it with a handful of silver. Takes a bit of patience, is all. If you stop to do the occasional dynamic event and don’t die to damage gear you’ll be fine.
Mounts is a great idea but then you must look at GW2 is very small.
GW2 is big yet small or small yet big.
I wanted GW2 to get mounts after seen the second trailer for BLACK DESERT mmo.
Combat on mounts, chasing after monsters with bow and arrows, swords, etc.
Think of the lost shore beach where the females are in panties and bras and men in boxers.
Now such as in WoW lets compare that to The westfall beach.
+ The Westfall beach is way way way bigger
+ The Westfall beach has way more colour to it. (In GW2 it does not even look like sand, its more like shaded dirt which is not good.)
Honestly we got this far without expecting them so I’m preeetty sure we’ll survive without them. Now in terms of adding to the game rather than changing it, taking that next step, I honestly do think mounts should eventually be added in some way but of course NOT have anything to do with the open world or even WvW, the things we are already accustomed to. I’m sure they could throw in an OPTIONAL game mode/event/dungeon, maybe even a form of pvp because come on, its not the modern era, animals are used for war all the time, it’s not uncommon. There is no need to revamp how to move around the current world but there’s always room for adding content, different things to do or appeal to, that’s all.
Not really. You run around the map until you almost got every point and then you use waypoints to get the ones you missed.
you must have tons of money, I can’t do this, sorry.
Now you are making excuses. Spend 30 minutes killing everything while looting everything they drop. You will have well over 5s even on bad days.
so why should I have to pay for exploring, can you tell me that? I’d gladly pay for travelling because it’s there to let people play with their friends at any time, but eploring via waypointing is just immersionbreaking.
