I know that the warrior can be played as a tank, but too few people do this. Most people play the warrior as a damage class that has base tank, the only true tank class is the Guardian. I know this has been said before, but I think the Dervish should be brought back. The dervish clearly won’t be the same, with lore and what-not, but a dervish would be a breath of fresh air. I understand people will most likely start playing the dervish as a damage dealer like the warrior, this can’t be stopped. Another heavy armor, melee class is needed and will probably be welcomed in with the other classes. As for the tankiness, give the class some defensive spells and nice base tank. This may motivate the support players to make a dervish and assist their allies. As the avatars, the only thing I can think of is giving each race the ability to become the avatar of their major god. This may cause some disputes but a better suggestion can be found. As for weapons I think the scythe should appeal to a range of classes, not only the dervish. A warrior may be able to use one and so might a necromancer. With armor, ‘skirts’ may not be the right the way to go. Skirts will cause some anger. My idea is to give them normal armor and have some special armors appear that way on the dervish. Anyway, my idea isn’t perfect so if you have any better ideas reply the fixes.

Technically, if the Dervish were to be released, it would be a ranged Heavy.

Scholar:
Mesmer, melee caster.
Necromancer, mid-range caster.
Elementalist, long-range caster.

Now, I know, you can play the Mesmer far range, you can play the Necro far/short range, and you can play the Elementalist short range, but overall, their ranges can be dumbed down to that.

Adventurer:
Thief, melee nuke.
Engineer, mid-range nuke.
Ranger, long-range nuke.

Again, Thief can be long range (but it’s subpar to Ranger). Mid-range Thief is also viable, etc, etc. Engineer is the same, although long-range Engineer is really subpar. Ranger can go anywhere, but they do have the most damage output at far range out of these three.

Fighter:
Warrior, melee attacker.
Guardian, mid-range attacker.
???, long-range attacker.

Yes, warrior can be far-range and guardian can be melee/far range as well. But the overall effectiveness of these classes can be defined by those two ranges stated. The Warrior has huge damage output in melee as opposed to the Guardian. The Guardian has the most overall support (and essentially effectiveness with skills) by being mid-range. The Virtues will reach a full party, the utilities also reach a full party, etc, etc.

Note: I did not say tank, healer, or dps in any of this. That’s because a lot of these professions, if not all of them, can roll as two of the three in a typical trinity.

I’m struggling to understand your definition of Tank, because to me, a Tank is someone who keeps aggro.

As for the Dervish avatars, they won’t work, because as you mentioned, lore. There are no Human Gods to channel at the moment.

Charr have no gods, Norn worship animal spirits, Human gods have abandoned us even though we worship them, Sylvari worship the dream, Asura believe in the Eternal Alchemy.

Out of all of those there are only Norn Shamans and Human Priest[esse]s who would be candidates to become anything similar to the Dervish.

Really, a heavy armor with support capabilities? That is the Guardian.

There are various reasons why there are no “tanks” in GW2. Aggro was mentioned, as there are no mechanics to keep aggro on you at all times. Similarly, a lot of bosses have attacks that kill you in a single shot, so tanking won’t make sense there either. And honestly, we have a mobile combat system, so having tanks would rather eliminate the need for dodging and evades, which would just bring us down to sitting in one spot and spamming skills.

And let me tell you, I don’t wanna go back into activating skills while standing still. That kitten is boring!

what’s the point in having a tank if the mobs just act on their own will and chase who they like?
even the guardian can pull them only with skill 5 of greatsword, but guardians cannot tank bosses, the bosses just will follow who they like best.
and anyway classical tank role is suicidal in certain battles.
