Thief needs a nerf
I don’t think you have ever actually played a thief. Don’t make suggestions when you know nothing of what you’re talking about.

All these requests about nerfing… No one ever bothers to learn how to deal with it :/ First of all a thief cant attack while in stealth, the instant they do they reveal themselves, so going stealth is meaningless only a means to escape. If you are having trouble with that well use crowd control skills, stun the thief, snare them, condition them, no nerfing is needed. Learn to counter these problems rather then simplifying the game just because it is too difficult for you :/

Think about it, do you ever think of someone being stealthy, nimble, fast, and strong??? NO! Thieves should kill by a thousand little bee stings while zipping in and out of stealth. Not stealth in a burst down in a couple of HUGE hits. It’s just illogical.
Thief is fine.
Only change I think should happen is after a thief finishes in stealth, they should get the revealed debuff. It is an attack from stealth and should function like all other attacks from stealth.
Otherwise, no changes are needed.

Actually yes, a Thieves burst scaling is still too high for my taste, period. We’re all too paper compared to that damage output. Hopefully the new balancing will bring it down to a reasonable level.

OP: show us how easy it is to just make a thief and just own everything. Then we can talk.
Some here actually think thief is immortal and does insanely much damage. Well, our damage come in bursts, not sustained. And that’s just how it’s supposed to be. We have to stay awake and be quick on our feet, or we die.
What I read here was “I have no skills – please destroy this class for me”
Well that is the point of the class go in stealth and boom kill you with huge burst;P
Maybe let them be more sneaky when in stealth with lower movement speed so they are forced to kill you or die :=)
To the OP. I suggest rolling a Thief and trying him out for yourself before you make ask for the nerf bat.

I have a level 80 thief and i agree with the OP, they are totally unbalanced, broken and stealth has no counters, they need fixing ASAP..
Hmm that thief just stealthed out. Perhaps if I stand here as quiet as a mouse and not move a muscle he will reappear!
edit: I have seen this so many times…..people get attacked by a thief who goes stealth and what do they do? Stand there and turn around looking for him.

I have a level 80 thief and i agree with the OP, they are totally unbalanced, broken and stealth has no counters, they need fixing ASAP..
The only balance is to remove stealth from the game, which isn’t happening. There should never be a reason a class in a MMO should have 100% damage mitigation with a way to keep it up permanently and be unseen to your opponent. But that’s just my opinion. :V
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!

The healing skill # 6, it heals and stealth at the same time. And what does the same skill do for warrior, elemental, necro, etc…? only heals
i hate thief because they can kill me pretty easily usually when specced to do it despite all my toughness and everything, although i think they still are a balanced class and people should learn to lose.
whenever i die to a thief i think it’s because the player was good at it, not because the class is imbalanced, or maybe i’m just a noob.
but i’m sure if i roll a thief i die quickly and cannot so easily kill others so….

Those who refuse to knowledge the huge unbalance in the game are thief owners.
Just to put things on perspective note the following:
- The thief can run away from combat in such a way that the chase is like a fat cop chasing an athletic runner. The thief either spams #2 on dagger or spams #5 on bow or spams stealth or uses skill #2 on sword to get away.
- Now, how would a necro, guardian, engenier, archer get away from battle? You can’t, if you try to get away from a thief you die because the thief can spam #2 on dagger and easily catch up with you or can use skill #5 on bow to catch up.
ALSO NOTE: In every single MMORPG game that I have play, any class that stealth MUST move slowly when stealth. Why is this not implemented on this game?
It is obvious, that this game is broken. The developers need to put their crap together and start working on real solutions. A class that has high mobility while on stealth is in simple terms bull…hit.
Do you know what is the only mistake I regret in my life? Making 4 toons and not a single thief. I don’t feel like going back and creating a thief just to kick another thief’s butt.

I own a thief level 5 i use it only for PVP. I kick butt..
I main a ranger, and based on that, I find it funny that you complain about thief mobility. My sword 1 literally makes it impossible for my opponent to run. It has two leaps (TWO) and a cripple in the three attack chain. And if a thief stealths? Entangle. If I need to get away, sword 2, turn 180 degrees, and press 2 again.
Now, to address a thief’s stealth.
-Guardians have symbols they can lay down and their shield bubble to push out and away of a shadow refuge. If you’re in a pinch, pop Sanctuary or hammer 5.
-Mesmers can stealth too! If that doesn’t work, laydown a chaos field and have a picnic. For shadow refuge, yank them out with the focus.
- Engineer’s can lay down a mine and face their back to it and then throw out a mine field, just to be safe. Or hide in a elixir gun puddle. Or a glue puddle. Or run around using the flamethrower cone to find them.
- Warriors have their huge longbow AoE field and invulnerability with Endure Pain.
- Necromancers can just sit in their marks and/or wells.
-Ranger can use muddy terrain, any of their traps, their longbow 5 to damag and cripple.
-Elementalist- Focus earth invulnerability, staff meteor shower, earth staff crippl line, mist form invulnerability. Don’t forget about their stun field on staff either.
Each class has multiple ways to do damage to thieves in stealth and/or create a place to hide in while the thief sits in stealth if they don’t want to take damage.

That’s a bit harsh, demanding that people don’t ask questions…
The answer is that neither of those skills has a cooldown. Thieves have more ways to get away, as well as quite a few snares to slow down whomever they’re chasing.
Let’s take Thief out of the game. It’s too OP. Actually… let’s just take all forms of PvP out of the game. In fact, let’s go one step further and take all combat out of the game. Let’s just run around maps and explore and gather things. You know what? Take out exploring too. Let’s just farm.

100%? Try 0%. Stealth is an illusion, the stealther still takes 100% damage when hit. They may not be seeable but they certainly still have to avoid crossfire and blindfire. You want 100% mitigation? See Guardian, Elementalist, Mesmers, Engineers and Warriors.
