But this game needs Arena PVP. 2v2, and 5v5 pvp with ranked and gear just like WOW. Yes like wow. Why? Because its the most intense pvp that really test your skill when you get a good match. PVP so far just isn’t rewarding imo and seems tacked on.

I would love to have an arena type game, at least for me its way more fun then a capture point type of a game.

Also we need some kind of ranking system

I would play arenas, as long as there is no gear grind attached to it.

the business of jumping into the pile and … well you don’t even have to mash 1 anymore, …. for rewards without and real thought, strategy or effort is a waste of time and represents nothing more than, hey i tagged this many.
pvp needs to be a group effort with tactics, planning and a solid strat to achieve something worthwhile.
theyre on the right track with its current content and im sure in time it will come to fruition as people get a grip on whats needed

I agree that this game needs some sort of arena PvP. I don’t generally do much PvP, but in GW1 I absolutely loved the Random Arena (randomly chosen teams from a queue of 4v4) and guild 1v1s. I don’t know if guild 1v1s are in this game yet, but it would be awesome to have some PvP besides zerg-fest WvWvW and MKOTH.

He asked for a game mode not a game design change, besides the gear grind was just a carrot on a stick in wow, unless you were very very bad you would get there eventually, I agree it is not fun and I love the way GW2 changed that but there is no reason to send him away its just an idea.

I would love to see this happening, this might be the only thing I miss from wow. +1 to this idea.

One could argue that WvW works much like this in small skirmishes.
What he’s suggesting doesn’t appeal to me but I don’t see that as a reason not to implement it. I simply won’t use that gameplay mode.

LOL. So you’re saying that GW2 PvP, a game built from the ground up for PvP, seems tacked on but WoW, the epitome of tacked-on PvP, is perfectly fine.

No thanks. Part of the appeal of this game is gearless pvp. Even Blizzard themselves admitted arena was a mistake if i recall correctly.

Whats the difference? 5v5 is there but its not called ARENA. What is missing is the option with CUSTOM TOURNAMENTS and LADDER. Thats it.

I never liked arena. What it needs is sPvP where you play with your char and get rewards. I don’t want to play with an instant lvl 80 char, I want to develop it myself

i played wow for 6whole years and one thing made arena bad and fail is the existing of healers…100% of arena teams had healers and the gear problem as well made arenas in wow fail too.

but in this game there is no healers there is no gear differences only thing that different is the players skill.

I am playing WOW right now and GW2 and SWTOR. What are these two missing? Arena pvp. Its the only thing from WOW that I like doing with my bf. We do Arena together every day to improve and i’ll admit WOWs is not perfect but its no reason to not perfect it and add to Gw2. If you dont like just dont use the game mode..simple as that.

I really would appreciate a small scale PvP area, because I’m mainly playing this game with one friend and do not like to join big anonymous guilds. But I guess the balancing issue would be too difficult.. get 2 Thiefs or 2 Mesmers and the game would be over in no time.

Even if you tell people that the game is balanced for 8v8, no one would really care and spam the forums. Just take a look at the WoW forums..

Rank gear is already in game, so I don’t know what everyone is saying there should be no gear grind? Rabbit, Deer, etc etc basically is rank gear, but since this is GW you only get better looks not stats.

So why not give us 5vs5 or 4vs4 arena like GW1 had? I’d really enjoy the mode and well if you people don’t enjoy it, follow your own advice and stick to the current PvP mode.

Also I like how everyone is bashing the OP, not because his idea is bad, but because he mentioned wow.

Without a gear grind, 2vs2, 3vs3, 5vs5 arenas would be fun.
The Arena itself shouldn’t be too small so there is enough room for movement.
This will not be added in a patch if they even decide to add it. If yes then it would be a new feature for the upcoming expansion.

Arena could be implemented decently unlike WoW where either you have to have 1000+ (or was it 2000+?) resilience to even be able to compete. The lack of healers plus emphasis on what an individual’s playstyle can bring to the table would probably be more important in an arena match in GW2.

WoW-style arena is the worst form of PVP ever.

Erm, this game is not World of Warcraft last time I checked. Why would the devs want to implement something in exactly the same way as that game? I’m not totally against an arena system, but I am totally against the World of Warcraft arena system.

I’m sure if ArenaNet do implement arena, they will do it with their own unique style and it will be a huge improvement on Blizzard’s version.

Why so angry ? Arena type matches would be really fun here and lets people test their skills more efficiently against different types of classes instead of zerging around.I think it would be a great addition to the game.

But yes, I guess 2v2 would also work well, since in “theory” you could 1v1 with any Profession against any Profession, you just need the right build to face X, and the right build to face Y! I also don’t think that 2 Thiefs or 2 Mesmer would be OP, since I only need one good warrior and one good Ingi to screw them over!

Some combos might be VERY hard thou. … like Double Hammer Warr and Guard

I would enjoy a 2v2 Deathmatch Arena, given the Fact that the GW2 PvP System is so much better than WoW … No Healers, Better Balanced Professions, Dowed-State, No Gear2Win, no “Combo” Issues (if you play Enchancer Shamy and Ret in a 2v2, you’re gonna have a Bad Time) ….

So yes! But it should weigh less than 5v5 Tournaments — this is the Key Function in GW2 PvP!

Yes for arena. Especially that there would be no need for gear grind or unbalanced pve items.
Too people who don’t like it. Who exactly is forcing you to play it? It is yet another option. You will still have wvwvw or spvp. I don’t like achievements yet I do not expect them to be removed just because I don’t like them. They are optional.

That being said, I would support 5v5 gladiator style deathmatch with three conditions.
1.) No gear grind attached (nothing says “skill” like outgearing your opponent, amirite?!?)
2.) only 5v5, 2v2 results in far too many buff/nerf cries when folks run into their class “counter”
3.) open Colosseum style maps without pillars, bridges, and other large obstacles (again, nothing says “skill” like a 30 minute LOS cheese fest…)

2) 2v2 is indeed terrible to balance. 3v3 however is fine. In game I shall not name even when people screamed how unbalanced stuff is, you usually went to top 20 teams and saw every single class in there so it is doable.
3)But there are no dedicated healers. So you will not be able to run around for too long. I most defenatelly want environment obstacles. Otherwise it would get borring pretty quickly.

Sure! so we can sit there and be treated to great arena match types like attrition everyone maxing out hp/tough/cond damage and trying to outlast the other. I truly hope the arena model is never implemented again, it was one of the worst decisions made by blizzard. Seeing a match go for 40+ minutes with people trying not to die rather than kill each other completely goes against what pvp should be in my opinion.

Well, i can see here a lot of " FAN BOYS " that arent being reallistics, are just defendind they “loved” game.

The fact is: The game is AMAZING theres no doubt about it, but theres a HUGE LACK of content at the end game.

I really think arenas would save the endgame.

Arena (aside from WoW Style with Gear2Win) is a quite amusing and challanging! I played WoW Arena, at first I was a scrub, afterwards I could make use of the “tricks” I learned in PvE and other stuff….
Arena … simply a Deathmatch against 2 other enemies is just Amazing, better than Zergfest 4v1 like in normal 8v8 …
2v2 or 3v3 — both would work here well,… since you don’t have dedicated healers and Uberpwner Gear it’s going to work very well!

I thought sPvP was the same as WoW’s arena. For the non-WoW-fanbois, what’s the diff, aside from being skill-based vs gear-based?

The reason Blizzard stated this was a mistake was because of the inability to completely balance PVP and PVE. Also, the fact that arena forced certain combinations as a min/max perspective. Guild Wars 2 does not use a trinity and is extremely skill based, not simply numeric like WoW.

With Guild Wars 2 system, you can easily have a plethora of successful profession combinations with fights not lasting too long such as heal/DPS combo flaws.

Every game has this same thread from a wow player. And even the creators of the arena in that game said it was a mistake.
Arena based pvp is the worst possible implementation or representation of pvp ever created. The tournament pvp is far and away a better model
Sooner or later you’ll want rating too
Hopefully this mindset of stacking op classes to feel superior will go away, I doubt it, but wouldnt it be nice

Fair enough, that’s a good point. In my Wow days nothing screamed “fun times” like chasing that resto druid w/ his HOT’s around pillars all day

But you’re right, w/o dedicated healers (and specifically w/ weapon swapping, so that bow rangers are defeated purely by a pillar), some obstacles might be acceptable.

This is a case of give them an inch and they will take a mile.

It will start off, we just want arena, no ranking, no rewards, just the thrill of this type of competition.

Then, if they get that, it will open an whole can of worms. Forums will be ablaze with, this class is op/needs buffed. We deserve to be rewarded for our skills. We are the true pvp. and the list of cries and demands will go on and on. It will just turn into a cesspool.

Everyone here knows this is truth, regardless if you openly admit it or not.

Honestly, if you enjoy that in WoW so much, go play it. I mean it is already in game over there.

I cannot understand where the problem lies? You need to build your class in an “most optimal way” to succeed in PvP … you need to have a strategy….

If your build is bad, that’s part of the game … you deserve to die if a well build char is fighting against you!

As said, the WORST Problems of WoW Arena were Healers, thus Heal-Debuff (MS), also Gear > Skill, and also the Keyboard-Lessons you needed to take to use all you stuff properly….

other Problems were LOS being kitteny, also the proportion of CC to NO CC … like Rouge 10000000 Stuns, Warr 1 Stun … for example …

also in WoW you had 1 Stunbreaker every 2 min, here you have plenty of …. so no Trololo PermaStun > Burst > Dead!

The Plattform is WAAAAY better made for Arena than WoW … WoW Arena didn’t work because of WOW not because of ARENA!

GW2 Arena could be quite the stuff! —- And, you don’t even need to change rewards … Free Tournaments and 8v8 are also the same in rewards … so why not!?!?!?!
