Okay, first off in the interests of full-disclosure, I have Master Crafter. This would HUGELY benefit me, but I also think it would be good for the game.

Now, what I am suggesting is that crafting professions be limited (in tens) to the basic level of item that can be crafted. So, for example, a level 20 player could make all blue level 20 items (which would put the limit around 75 I believe). They would also be able to make greens and rares to a higher level.

I think this would be beneficial in two ways:

1) Prevent the current system of easy levelling by sitting around Lion’s Arch and force players out into the low level zones. I don’t hugely like this method of forcing players out, as carrot over stick seems much better, but it would help.

Also, players could still use crafting to get the bonus 20 levels, but they would have to spread them out over the course of levelling up. Anyone who wanted to switch between professions to do all 80 levels via crafting could, but a lot less efficiently.

2) Make crafting actually have a point outside levelling by limiting the pool of crafters, and more importantly the number of crafted items that flood the market through power-levelling.

Now, obviously this is only a good idea if the intention was not to have crafting be used as a way to speed level. It might well have been, as this ties into the no grind philosophy that was advertised. If crafting was intended for any other purposes however, then I think this has merit.

No. Just no.

It won’t force anyone out into the low level zones-levelling up by crafting in the low levels is not cost effective anyway.

If you’re trying to restrict the number of crafters, this method wouldn’t work at all, as people who level in this fashion generally level ALTS this way (otherwise it costs too much gold). Having lots of crafted items on the market is good from a buyers point of view.

A better idea might be to delevel the OP, strip him of all crafting levels and gold and materials and then see what he thinks of his own idea.

Wow… it was just a suggestion

You also seem to miss the point of it. This wouldn’t affect most players with no gold/levels/materials, as it costs WAY too much for a newbie to do level up like this. In fact, it could HELP newbies by allowing them to actually sell the crafting goods they make for a profit (or at least less of a loss). This suggestion was specifically targeted at preventing rich players from levelling up Alts to eighty in Lion’s Arch.

Whilst I acknowledge that being able to do this is nice (I completely support Zintish’ reason for not wanting this), it involves the market being flooded with crafted materials, and reduces any need for players to leave LA, which is currently bad enough with just Fractals.

Moreover, the flood of crafted gear makes dropped loot really boring. When was the last time you were excited to find a green drop? Pretty much any non-yellow weapon or armour piece is basically vendor trash, or maybe a salvage because it is so cheap and easy to fully kit out your character at any level.

I’m not pretending this isn’t an idea with downsides, but I hardly think you gave it a fair chance.
