Ele & thief main (full ascended)
Down with the braindead faceroll classes.
(edited by Razor.6392)
Lately, it has become a common trend for lesser servers to jump onto high population servers to do boss events. This has caused more harm than good.
List of issues:
1. Lag is unbearable.
2. “Trolls” come in to mess up the timers / events on purpose.
3. Some maps (during world events) reach their cap limits, and then the people from their OWN HOME SERVER, start to get thrown into overflow, while the guests happily stay there doing their thing.
Please, get rid of it or implement restrictions
Suggestions -> Pick one
a) Time limit (can’t guest for longer than 6 hours, resets weekly <- This is only for high population server guesting)
b) Capacity limit (If an overflow is created, guests will be the first ones to be teleported to it)
c) Loot limit (guests cannot loot world chests outside their own home server)
d) Technical limit (guests won’t be first priority when it comes to culling)
Chat delay, skill delay, low fps (the only thing on my end) really do get old after a while. I hope ANet is aware of the problem.

There are restrictions, you can’t guest more than 3 times in a 24 hour period, if I recall. If you want tighter restrictions, somehow I sense it might do more harm than good.
Of course, the authority figure in me wants to just sigh and go:
“And this is why we can’t have nice things.”
1. Get a better computer or guest to a less populated server.
2. What server dosen’t have any trolls?
3. The only complaints I see are people who try to zone for the last few seconds of a boss and end up getting an overflow. I have never had an issue with this if you go to the zone before the event starts. If you zone at the last second you run the risk of missing out on the chest due to overflows.
I don’t think the guests should be punted if they helped get the event going. The guesting allows people in off time zones a better chance to participate in an event they want to. Something I hope Anet learned from the one time only event.

In the meantime,
Seriously? You think I’m complaining because I’M the one guesting?
you are being too selfish is all i can say
I agree with some of the posters here on people being selfish.
People are guesting to higher population servers so they -can- do the event, because it is likely on their server that there simply are not enough people in the area at the time to kill the boss. It’s easy enough to do the events leading up to the boss sure, most of them can be done solo, but large group meta events can’t be done with only a few people, the event doesn’t scale down that low to the point where you can 5 or even 10 man a dragon.
If you want a guarantee of getting into the actual zone so that you can get the chest, be there earlier and don’t wait until the last minute to jump over. That way you’ve got more than enough time to go from overflow to the event without issues.
Your all fighting the symptoms and not the root. The problem isn’t the low pop servers. The root of the problem is that the world events occur at different times on different servers. People are server jumping to increase their chest drop rate. Its basically an exploit. If you synchronize all world events across all the servers you will lose 90% of the server jumpers and trolls. The people on the small servers will still come but they should be allowed to as they are otherwise blocked from that portion of the game.
I’ve been informed that Jade Quarry crashed at tequatl.
Do something ANet.

I agree, this is the best solution. Guesting players should get their rewards if they helped with an event, that’s the whole point of guesting, the “problem” appears when people guest, not because their server is empty (Which is the intented purpose), but to find an extra chest to loot. This is the root of the problem and what Anet must solve. One way is to synchonize the big world events across all servers, the other way is to make the chest lootable per character/boss instead of character/boss/server so players can loot the chest on one server per boss per character istead of multiple times.
A character can guest on 2 servers, so someone with 3 characters can loot the dragon chests x3 (chars) x 3 (3 dragons) x 3 (home server + 2 guest servers) = 27 times. If they remove server from the equation it will result in the much lower number of 9 times.
I might be mistaken but I thought you could only loot each chest ones per day with each character, no matter on how many servers you do this event. Form how I understood the discussion it is rather a matter of time-saving which could be indeed solved by syncronising the event spawns if thats possible.
Another thing which could help imo was if people were transfered to a low populated server were the event wasn’t done due to to few people instead to an overflow. That way people could do the event still and the “natives” from that server could gain some extra help so they did not have to guest. I have no idea if that’s technically possible.

They shouldn’t let people guest to full pop servers like the one I play on.
TC was pretty troll free since it is the RP server
On TC I have been pushed to the overflow 30 minutes before the window open for some events.
We never had a problem getting the event started, and we keep out timers pretty close. I think that was part of the reason people on other forums designated our server as “The Official Guesting Server.” If the events were once a day things then sure i can understand hopping servers to try and hit one, but when an event pops five to seven times a day? Now we have horrible lag at the dragons (worse than before). Not getting the events do to overflows even when you are there way before the event window opens. Trolls harassing the Role Players who are native to the server because they are RPing.
@Faux Play
1 – It´s not a matter of choice, some people don´t live in rich countries. In Brazil you pay more than 1500 for a middleware computer. And we have minimum wage of 300… (dollars)
2 – You have a point here.
3 – So you don´t have a clue about how many troubles this guest dragon system caused on JQ, frequent disconnects, lag compatible with Karka event, people DC on dragons and transfered to overflows losing the dragon and the chest. Do you think it´s fair with people who choose that specific server before the end of free transfers?
Or you must be one of those dragons farmers trying to unlegitimate our claim or you dont have a clue about people are complaining.

Simply put: People playing at their home server shouldn’t be screwed over by guests.
Priorities please.
They shouldn’t let people guest to full pop servers like the one I play on.

I totally agree with this post. I’m on TC and I’ve noticed the lag with the dragons, and with the other chest spawning events, but my main complaint is with how a lot of the people guesting are being extremely rude/crude in mapchat (in all zones).
Not only do we have horrible lag, but we also have to put up with “your mom” jokes and other “barrens-chat” in our community, at least until they jump to another server and do the same to them.
I don’t know how this can be fixed, but I certainly hope it does get handled, until then, my mapchat is off so I don’t have to see it.
The solution to the problem is not to remove availability of the action, it is to remove the reward to taking the action. The only reasonable and effective solution is to remove chest access to guests. No chest means no reason to randomly enter another server to do their events, while still allowing people who legitimately might be interested in interacting on or moving to another server the ability to do so.

That’s still problematic. Let me give you an example of how. One Guild I’m in, is a cross-server all-Mesmer outfit. We regularily do world bosses/dungeons/fractals. As such, we pick by group vote which server we’re Guesting on per week. With this in mind, we’re not there to troll that server’s legitimate population, or deliberately screw up your fun. Would you still think it’s A-OK to do a group like ours dirty, RE: rewards?
So long as cross-server guild membership is permitted, there can be no additional restrictions on guesting. You can’t allow people to be members of a guild on different servers and then prevent them from playing with their guildies, or in any other way punish them. The screwy influence system already makes it troublesome enough as it is.
Want to stop guesting? Then advocate for it’s removal and allow free server transfers on a long cool down.

Sorry, but I would gladly sacrifice your guild activity to clean up the mess that is currently occuring. The only alternative, as I see it, is to set it up so that your account somehow remembers if you’ve done the event at all, not just in the instance you’re in. The reason I back “guest = no chest” is because I think that is significantly easier to implement. I think if they could do the other option they already would have, since that’s what they seem to have intended from the start.
