I like the idea of Torment. This new condition is more unique and creative than it could have been (like a life leech condition). It makes perfect sense for necromancer and thief. However I feel that Mesmers deal primarily with confusions, so I’m not entirely convinced that Mesmers need Torment. And I was thinking that since Torment is kind of a movement impaired condition that perhaps it could be useful moreso on Guardians, since guardians are all about lock-downing an area. So, for instance, if a Guardian Torments you then if you run away you take extra damage. Kind of like the opposite of the thief. If you run towards the thief then you take extra damage.

In GW1 mesmer’s were all about subverting an enemies actions to make them do what you wanted them to do, restricting their ability to act. ie. wastrels worry would injure them if they didn’t act now, while empathy would cause damage every time they attacked.

Torment and Confusion both epitomise this, the former forcing players to limit their movements, the latter forcing them to limit their actions – both on threat of serious injury.

Secondly, as you have said, (And according to the devs) this is a mobility thing too – wanting to give these classes a way of stopping enemies fleeing without giving them increased mobility (Mesmer has the fewest options for mobility of any class in the game – having only 1 on-demand blink and 1 swiftness skill the former taking up a valuable utility slot, the latter forcing them to use an offhand focus)

By contrast guardian already has a sizable arsenal of gap closers and control skills ranging from utility blinks, to leaps, to bumpers to ranged immobilises

though i think it could be nice if worked into a guard weapon or trait (maybe the torch?)

It was a necromancer skill back in GW1. I would argue that a guardian can’t get it because of flavor reasons, but arena net throw that out the window. So. Why not? Give it to the guardian..

Mesmers are much more about shutting down enemies than guardians are about locking down an area. Besides, mesmers don’t solely deal with confusion, they deal with the mind as a whole, making confusion, torment and fear things that the mesmer should be able to use. while confusion and torment are coming, fear was in the mesmer arsenal, but the ability it was on made it unusable and nerfed the actual ability, so they removed it. On top of that, mesmers also deal with warping reality, making torment a perfect combination of the mind and reality affecting condition.

I don’t think thieves necros and mesmers need a new condition, since they have a lot of them.
What about add a condition that only the warrior can do ?

necromancer actually do need it pretty bad. As for mesmers and thieves? I could live with out on my mesmer with a condition spec. Not sure about thieves. Warrior isn’t a primary condition profession, so they wouldn’t really have use for something like that. Plus, they can stack bleeds far faster then a necromancer and can cause burning on top of that. So if you do want to run that set, they have the tools for it.

I would agree (as a Mesmer), only we Mesmers no longer “primarily deal in confusions”.

It was a WvW thing (since in sPvP the damage was never increased beyond some background buzz), and it was nerfed since then.
In PvE it has always been unusable due to it’s prohibitively short duration. In WvW it is now too weak to be useful as a damage dealer, and too weak to be useful as a utility condition (since in this case, both are the same).

So yeah… give me Torment. I want some condition except the single-target focused Sharper Images bleeds, at least.
