Right now, today, in this game, Berserkers is better than everything.

If the game is designed so that people can dodge, dodge again, blow cooldowns and dodge some more, then the obvious counter to dodging is to do your maximum damage with every hit that you can land.

If your opponent dodges, you dodge, your opponent hits you for 1500, and you hit back for 5000, you are going to win. If you have 12,500 life your opponent will need to land 9 hits to kill you. If your opponent has 24,000 life, it will take you five hits to kill them.

Now my example is exaggerated for clarity, but it holds true that if two warriors meet, and play exactly the same way, the one doing more damage will win.

The reason is that berserkers scales much more than toughness and vitality.

Every time someone screamed about being mugged/back-stabbed the thief doing it was wearing berserkers. Every time someone died from 100nades, the engineer was wearing berserkers. Evert time someone has been killed in one hit from Kill Shot, the warrior is wearing berserkers.

You are nerfing your classes because of berserkers!

So my solution is a simple one, toughness should lower damage received from critical hits. For every 1000 armor a person has, the critical damage they suffer should be lowered by 10%

This will do two things. First, all the complaints about berserkers (and even speed runs) should go away. Second, condition damage will be important again.

Condition damage is supposed to counter toughness, not berserker gear. Right now berserkers counters everything, and the counter to berserkers is to have more berserkers gear than the other guy has.

edit: stupid filter

The only way to play the engineer is to exploit it.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.

bad idea.
Glasscanons die to everything that survives their first burst.
If you would allow a Bunker to get even tankier, you will completely overpower Bunkerbuilds. Bursting them down in the right moment is the only thing you can do right now (if the bunker is not a complete piece of cake).
Try CC on Glasscanons and the fall like a house of cards…

I suggest to remove critical damage from the game completely.
After this change critical effect is not defined by critical damage stat, but by skill itself. For example heartseeker crit.strike deals 200% damage, warriors mace autoattack critical hit dazes target for 0.25 seconds etc.
With such change Burst capabilities of the build are not defined by the amulet person chose, but by his weapons and skills. And it is much more appropriate solution.

Author’s suggestion won’t be implemented never ever.It burdens current simple and elegant mechanic with unnecessary math.

It already does. toughness lower all damage.
lets say you have 2000 power and 50% crit dmg then this is what you will hit with crossfire. of course none use less than 1900 armor but its just to demonstrate.
1000 armor=862,75
1000 armor critical hit+50%crit=1725,5
3000 armor=297,25
3000 armor critical hit+50% crit=594,5

No, there are different gear types so people can play the way they want. Anymore toughness and the challenge in different aspects of the game won’t be there. I would be for raising the low base hp of certain classes (elementalist, engineer anyone?).

Berserkers is only better for damage, not any type of absorption since it’s power, precision, crit dmg.

Thats why we have utilities, ccs, blocks, evades, stun. It makes the game much more dynamic than your simple math game. If you were correct, it would be assuming that at no point in history since BWE1 has a berserkers ever lost to a bunker 1v1. If anything I think it’s quite the opposite, only the other day did I 1v3 berserker thieves as a condition build. This isn’t runescape where we take turns hitting eachother. Bad thread.

In what way does toughness NOT already reduce the damage you receive? Wouldn’t it make significantly more sense for you to just ask for toughness to scale better than to ask for it to alter only crits?

First, all the complaints about berserkers (and even speed runs) should go away.

Now you’re not making sense, npc and player defenses scale differently. You do LOADS more when you hit npcs so clearly they lack the armor to receive the same benefits as a player.

Second, condition damage will be important again.

Condition damage is crippled by condition mechanics. The caps on stacks and non-condition build characters taking up space in those stacks is the issue.

Very bad idea, for o vious reasons as others have stated. Toughness already decreases damage taken, critical and non critical. Also, your example doesnt make sense, because in pvp 2 good players will neer take turns hitting each other, or using defensive skills and dodging. If that example was true, even without exxagerated numbers no one would be able to win 1vs2 or 1vs3 etc…
