How about adding in game collectable trading cards which you can actually play against other players? I’m thinking it would be a similar game to ‘Magic the Gathering’ in that there would be monsters and spells etc, but I’ve not thought about it long enough to decide how the game would actually work! The cards would resemble characters from the game, such as Eir and Rytlock as rare cards, and common cards would be creatures such as bores and trolls. The card’s abilities would reflect the abilities the actually characters use, like spiders using poison. Games would take place between friendlies or as competitive matches in which players could compete in tournaments, or even wager bets against each other! The cards could be found/acquired as random drops or by completing certain tasks, which would also give rarer cards based on the difficulty of the event. Dailies and monthlies, for example could give common/uncommon cards, while challenging bosses like Tequatl, could give a card of themselves, once defeated, which of coarse would be rare and hard to attain giving rare cards a highe value. Cards could be traded or sold on the Black Lion Store by players and ‘Packs’ of cards could also be bought with gems like mini pets are, giving a random set of common or uncommon cards. I think an idea like this would bring to the game an even greater element of depth, and addiction! Also. because of the addictive nature of collectables, especially cards, it could be a great source of revenue for Arenanet. As of writing this, I’m coming up with ideas as to how the game could work, but let me know what you think and I may post my ideas based on whether people like or dislike this idea! Let me know what you think!!

I suggested this to Cryptozoic which used to carry World of Warcraft trading card game. It appears Crypto has decided to make a TCG/MMO called HEX Shards of Fate and drop WOW.

Which currently is gonna go into alpha release in a few days. This game will allow for all battle aspects to play out in tcg based combat. Don’t forget that this will feature Multi-Player Dungeons and Raids. So if TCG’s is your bag then I guess you would like to check this out…

Polymock has some card-game like elements, although it’s not nearly as complex as some card games. I think developers have expressed interest bringing it back before, though I’m sure it’s on the low-priority wishlist.

I could go for a return and expansion of polymock.

I would also love to see what card / dice games they play in tyria. Especially if there are regional variations. Like for example the real life game egyptian ratscrew, that had a lot of rule variants and a core game play. And yes that is the real name of the game and no I don’t know why it’s called that but I have met people from various States and they all know it by that name.

It could even just be an article written on the website in which the rules are layed out. Bein an obscure real life game like tarok that was popular in the past or one they make up at anet.

I’ve heard it called that, though at my high school people called something much, much more impolite. (Or an abbreviation of the more impolite version. ;P )

The important thing, I think, with a card game inside an RPG, is to keep it simple. The OP mentioned Magic: The Gathering, which is absolutely love, but it’s too complex for a mini-game. I remember wasting an enormous amount of time with Tetra Master in Final Fantasy IX, back on the ol’ Playstation, however, which was simple, but also highly collectible and engaging.
