The current Transmutation system based on armor type seems over complicated and impractical.

Example; I have just bought two pieces of cultural armor that, of course, have undesirable stats for my level. So I tried using the stones, and they do not work.

Why?

It’s because the cultural armor is a rare type and the other is a fine type.

This really seems rather silly, If I like the look of a piece of armor I should be able to have that look.

So how do we fix this?

Get rid of the type based system and instead make them only usable by the characters level. Have four different stones (twenty levels per) that can transmute any armor I want (with restrictions to usability of course).
So levels 1-10 I use Transmutation Stone A, and as soon as I hit level 21 I then I must switch over to using Transmutation Stone B, and so on. Armor is then soulbound to that character. (That may be the case with the current system, I wouldn’t know, see above example)

Or we can just do away with all restrictions (besides armor class) and go with a simple one stone does all.

Anymore ideas how to fix this, or are you happy with the way things are now?

Yeah, I get frustrated by the transmutation stones. I simply expect them to be able to take the appearance of any piece of armor and apply it to any other piece of armor of the same type (heavy, medium, light). That’s it. What’s the big deal of doing otherwise?

I am not sure of the problem but I could combine a piece of Masterwork with my level 80 exotic armor. Are you using a fine transmutation stone (required if any of them is level 80, basic transmutation stone only works with both item level <=79).

I do agree that transmutation should work even across light/medium/heavy armor, to make it more fun and give you more choice for variations.

Yes, I am only at this moment, level 50 and I tried both types of stones.

Oh I see. Maybe it is a bug or they have changed the behavior of the stone. I still could combine a white piece (the initial chest piece from start) with a blue, then combine into a masterwork with that blue in the past two days, with my low level alt. Also works on the foot piece too. You should give them the name of the items that you failed to combine through an in-game bug report. There might be some sort of bug to disable some specific combination.

No. Transmutaion do not let mixing types, but what you call ‘types’ are not types.

Fine isn’t a type, it’s a rarity. You can mix properties of fine and rare items. I’ve done so multiple times. My hadgear in me elementalist is the starting headpiece. It started white, and now it’s green or yellow, can’t remember exactly which one (the skin is bugged, though, I keep it just in case), but it has been blue, green and yellow.

Types would be things like medium or light. You can’t mix those, like you can’t mix a sword and an axe.

Another case in which it won’t work is if one of the pieces is level 80. Then you’ll need a fine transmutation stone.

No I completely disagree with your idea! You’re doing something wrong mate.

I’ve never had problems with the stones. Rarity doesnt matter! Type and Level does.

You cant swap the skin of a gun with the skin of a sword.
You cant swap the skin of a light shoulder piece with the skin of a heavy shoulder piece.

The Yellow, Fine Transmuation Stone works on reskinning a lvl 80 item with any level item.

The Green, Basic Transmutation Stone works on reskinning a lvl 0-79 with any level item… Maybe even a lvl 80 item? I dont know I havent tested it on a level 80 tbh haha.

Then this may be a bug then? If so It is happening to all my characters. I can not transmutate Fine to Masterwork or Gray to any other rarity then. I am using both Stones to try this, all my characters are below level 80.

Maybe a rewording in the description should be in order then, It is a bit confusing.

@Tekitee I have been trying to swap the skin of a piece of chest armor with another piece of chest armor (both medium armor). Swapping a skin with a gun and a sword would be silly. Now a combination of the two, a gunsword would be awesome.

This could be a bug. Maye you should make screenshots of both items and report it.

Yes, I have been, on all the items on all my characters. If this is a bug, I hope they fix it soon, that cultural armor was not cheap.

I THINK (not sure about that but a friend had happen the same thing) that you need to have the right level for BOTH pieces. So, even if you want the skin of an item that is above your level, you can’t transmute it onto another.
For example, as long as you are below lvl 60, you can neither wear NOR transmute the look of the lvl 60 cultural armor onto any other item. Maybe that is the problem you encounter?

I’ve transmutated at least one level 77 item skin into a level 68 item while being level 74 myself.

They work fine for me, my only gripe is the fact you can only buy them in sets of 5, it’s annoying when there is 6 armor slots!.

I just want to be able to buy 1 for 30 gems.
Make it, 1=30, 5=125, 10=225 etc.

Nope all items have been below my level.
