Traveling is no fun here
Anyone else bored to death with the travel system? You just open the map, click on somewhere and poof! you are there. Wooohooo, so epic and intriguing and interesting.
(brings up the WoW card again) One of the funniest thing in WoW was the traveling, you had ships, you had zepelins and you even had a kitten subway! It felt realistic, you had time to observe the zones and meet new people while waiting or traveling…
I too dislike the waypoint system. It seems to be a way to get us to spend money. It takes away some excitement from the game for me.
“I hate this game’s instant travelling system, please make me wait instead because that is so much more fun!”
o.O
^ Nowhere did he say it was fun. Its immersive, makes players see the world, instead of just porting around. Ive had a hatred of instant transport in almost every game.
No way. Slow travel can be fun the first time or two, but once I’ve seen it a few times, I don’t want to waste hours of my life on waiting to get where I want to be. Even if you’re just suggesting slow travel options in addition to porting, I’d still be resistant as ANet has plenty of better ways of using their time/resources than finding creative ways to kitten me off.
You need to find a waypoint to teleport to it, therefore people still have to run around the world.
I would have been more engaged with a reputation-based portal system, i.e. if you build rep with a given area, they let you use their portal. That would have, imo, given me something to put some time into to build my fast-travel network. I think fast-travel is essential to group play getting together but I concur that things so instantly transitioned from explore mode to teleport mode that it works against the impetus to go out and explore the sidelines.

Eh, gonna have to disagree with you on this. I wouldn’t call it “fun”. It was a really neat idea, and the first few times I took a wyvern I found it amazingly cool. But fun? No. Especially after playing WoW for 7 years. I just wanted to get to my destination and be done with it.

Exactly why I keep arguing for mounts. It adds a new type of travel, faster then walking, but you still get to enjoy the visual beauty of the game.

And I’ll disagree with you. Yes the wyvern/griffin flying got a little boring after awhile but I never got tired of the zepelins or gnome tram. The ships were always fun to run around on with friends. Traveling is down time, some would call it boring but if you focus away from the fact your gonna be sitting on it for a few minutes and focus on the world around you it’s much more entertaining.

You are one of the few then. Just about everyone I know of who’s played them complains of these every single time.
Worst part of the game an ruins the game a little bit for me.
I prefer mounts. They’ll never get rid of the system though, it is for the majority.

Agreed. Traveling using these methods was cool the first few times. But it didn’t take long for them to become convenient interludes for bio breaks or trips to the fridge. How anyone can claim they enjoy taking the bus, is beyond me.

Cause we’re able to focus on whats going around us and enjoy it. Its the opposite of those people sitting on the train thinking “And here I am again…another day another train”
It’s called making due with what you have, some people are quite good at it. I do want mounts though, WPs to me are the means of traveling from one end of a zone to another. I usually just run the small distances when I get there, even with a WP close.
